Also, I really like the albums he did with Mavis Staples, Chaka Khan and Judith Hill. And Paradigm, the song he did with George Clinton. So I'm going to have to disagree with the OP...

Best Collabs were with: George Clinton (We can Funk),Morris Day (777), Vanity 6

Producers he SHOULD collaborate with, but probably will die4we C it: (not necessarily in this order)

1 Babyface, 2 Sade,3 Aerosmith is out of their prime but still, 4 Timbaland, 5 D'Angelo, 6 Red Hot Chili Peppers, Maxwell, Rick Rubin,

7 Rza, 8 Quincy Jones, 9 Black Keys, 10 Awol Nation, 11 Bruno Mars, 12 R.Kelly, 13 Pharell Williams, 14 Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, 15 Arctic Monkeys, 16 Jack White, 17 Nile Rodgers, 18 Andre 3000, 19 George Michael, 20 Raphael Saadiq, 21 Danger Mouse

Duets with: El Debarge, Tina Turner, Maxwell, Aerosmith, Stevie Wonder,Andre3000, and probably about 5 other ppl I can't think of

Prince & Stevie Wonder: So What The Fuss... amazing song. music
Prince & Kate Bush: Why Should I Love You? amazing as well.... music

Prince & The Time/ Sheila E./ Vanity 6/ Apollonia 6/ Jill Jones/ Madhouse/ The Family.. all these are breathtaking.. amazing.. music

Prince & Mavis Staples: Time Waits For No-one.. a classic music

Prince & Madonna: well I bought my first Madonna-album in 1989 for the title track AND the Prince co-penned "Love Song", I love this, much more funky than the rest of this album imo... amazing track.. I still have the 1st edition of the Like A Prayer-LP vinyl and it still smells of the perfume (this was a cool thing to do, to make it smell!)... "Love Song"... an amazing song imo.. music

However, I agree about the hiphop and rap artists, those have been bad......

Especially the New Power Pak 3-CD (1998), the Chaka Khan & Larry Graham cd's..... oh no those were pure c-r-a-p. And Tamar......... Bria Valente. Therefor I am not buying any Prince "related artists" albums anymore, like I did once..

How can you love the Judith Hill album and not like Free Urself? Very related to my ears.
.
I agree it's been hit and miss with Prince collaborations. Not all terrible (though some have been awful - Doug E Fresh and the New Power Pak mentioned above) and not all great (though some are great - esp live with Tom Petty or on record with Miles Davis).
.
Not ALL that different from his hit and miss career on his own, really. Plenty of brilliance mixed with plenty of garbage from time to time.

Prince & Kate Bush: Why Should I Love You? amazing as well.... music

Prince's former engineer on the Kate bush, Prince song :

So Prince comes in and listens to it. And the brutality
began. First we sampled the drum thing and synced it up to my Powerbook so
we could do MIDI. At that point, we essentially created a new song on a
new piece of tape and then flew all of Kate's tracks back on top of it. So
now we could run the sequencer and add all the keyboards that Prince put
on. So Prince stacked a bunch of keys, guitars, basses, etc, on it and then
went to sing background vocals. When Prince does vocals, he sits right at
the recording console with a microphone hanging over it and does his own
punching in and out. So he kicks everyone out of the room when he sings.
It took him a few hours and then he called me back in and played me the
thick, multi-tracked background vocals he had put on. Now, as we all know,
the song in question goes "Of all the people in the world why should i
love you". When Prince called me back in and played me what he had done,
he had sung "All of the people in the world", instead of Of All. I said,
isn't it OF all the people in the world? Not ALL of? He said, no, we had a
little talk about that, in his cocky way, as if to say he had talked with
Kate about changing the words to "all of" instead of "of all". The next
day, I was waiting at my hotel room for the call to go to the studio when
the assistant engineer, Sylvia Massy, called and said Prince was in the
studio doing vocals. I was surprised; i was always called well in advance
of Prince going into the studio. When I got there he was changing all the
vocals to "Of All", and was sampling them in himself, which is something
he would normally never do himself. My interpetation? He made a mistake,
as humans do, and didn't have the guts to admit it. That's weird. So I
sorta poked my head in at one point and asked him if he needed any help,
and we went on with the day. Eventually he had me do a rough mix, and when
he had approved it, we sent it to Kate. I got a call from Therese a few
days (or weeks, I forget) later. She said, Kate Bush said to destroy all
copies of that mix. I said, huh? Did she not like it or something? (my
heart rejoiced, because I hated what Prince did to it) She said, I don't
know, she just said to destroy them. Later on Prince told me, Kate Bush
liked what we did. She said it sounded very American. So at that point I
wasn't sure if she was even going to use it. We sent the tapes back and
she sort of split the difference with what he sent and what's on the
record. Kate, if you read this, stick the pre-Prince version of Why Should
I Love You out on something. And let me do a remix of Not This Time.

Kate Bush "The Red Shoes" what a great and very underrated album. cool

I even own this album on LP vinyl as well, rather rare afaik..... smile

I have just checked my e-mail, I payed Euros 119,00 for this fine album in near mint.

music

However the Kate Bush re-make Directors Cut, that is a rather awful album IMO, especially when you already know the brilliant originals: "The Sensual World" & "The Red Shoes".

I don't think TRS is underrated. Did it get bad reviews?

I think to some extent it suffered from Bush' decision to give it a "live" feel because she wanted to tour it (which she finally didn't), it gives it a less personnal, less eccentric sound than her previous albums and maybe because of that it was a disappointment to some, me included at the time. But nevertheless I listened to it a LOT and it soon grew on me. The production standards are maybe less eccentric than before but the album still sounds gorgeous and the songwriting is Kate's magic as much as ever. I absolutely love it and Moments Of Pleasure is definitely one of her strongest songs, ever.

'Paradigm' with George Clinton, 'Providence' with Ani DiFranco, and 'Give Em What They Love' with Janelle Monae are all great songs. Prince's vocal contributions to those tracks are phenomenal. He seems to work well with Andy Allo too.

Nothing else has really stood out though. Except for 'Undisputed' with Chuck D, which stands out for all the worst reasons.

The Red Shoes is available on vinyl? And is it really that expensive?
Oh and I wouldn't say Directors Cut is awful. The new version of Lily for instance is very good. This was the version she performed as the concert opener last year.

I missed that, but it's on youtube and will be officially released at the end of the month. I like it as well. I'd rather spend my money on this one than on Hitnrun.

Sometimes Prince truly collaborated rather than directed his "collaborators" with military precision in a studio or exchange tapes with big names. His directed collaborators can still contribute ideas but with the understanding that Prince knows best. I think he's been trying to change that with 3eG and Josh, allowing them to be in the driver's seat on many tracks, with often tepid results on PLEL but rather promising outcomes with Josh on AOA and HitNRun, the latter being a more spotty example.

With songs like Indifference pointing to something better than what is on PLEL, let's hope the next 3eG record will show some progress, he did do some of his best work with Wendy and Lisa who became true collaborators even though theywere not the best musicians he could have found.

Yeah I love the new version of Deeper Understanding. It's always nice to have alternate versions of songs anyway nod

Are those shows from last year circulating in bootlegs?

why did you have to remind of the existence of this song?? Prince managed to make Chaka sound drunk on it.. and what was he thinking making her rap..also the chorus sounds like fingernails on chalkboard to me ... so many reasons for me to hate it.. lol

I'm sure Prince regrets not letting this one gather dust in the vault far away from the public..
