How has Prince's music helped you?

I feel like I have been too negative recently and its always difficult to remember Prince is a real human being that wakes up and goes to sleep, eats and can get pissed off and sad. I know the lyrics to shut this down or something is "i cant hear the haters from the back of my jet" or whatever but i think that is completely false and more off a confidence facade. No amount of fancy assetts from being a multi millionaire can stop you from feeling a little bit affected inside when hearing negative scrutiny about yourself or your art (or maybe they are both for him) i honestly dont think i couple cope when i think about if i was this famous guy that everyone spoke about everyday on social media and forums dedicating to discussing me my personal life and my art.

but famz (tm) and non-famz alike id be interested 2 know how which particular songs if any have helped you through rough patches or inspired you to improve yourself, be more ambitious. for example I listen to "walk don't walk" pretty much every morning because i love the ultimate message of that song of doing whatever the fuck you want and not being a part of the conventional sheeple herd. honestly i think when you no longer truly give a shit about what other people think of you.. (ive noticed a lot of the things I do or dont do traces back to what somebody else is going think and that is the sole influence of my decision) you can achieve anything and your dreams will be able manifest themselves. Whilst we all know when you die you're just a skeleton forevermore 6 ft underground its sort of weird how we are still able to let negativity influence us.

Love your Thread Title!

Alot of His Music has Helped me by Blessing My Soul, Especially all The Spiritual songs:

God Is Alive

The Word

Purple Rain

One of Us

7

Holy River

The Cross

God

Still Would Stand All Time

etc. etc. etc.

(I know I'm leaving some out) biggrin

And the songs he wrote about some of us being Shafted:

Dreamer

When Will We Be Paid

Colonized Mind

Dear Mr. Man

When I was younger and coming around towards puberty, confused about my sexuality, my tastes and what it meant to fit in in a tiny town, Prince helped me a lot. He taught me to think for myself, embrace a semblance of androgyny, to do my own thing and to realise that there's more to being a man then being able to fight, dig a ditch or drive a pick up truck. He taught me that you could still be masculine by embracing your feminine elements.

His music taught me that you could combine several different styles and that it was OK to like them all (punk, funk, R&B, rock) and that music was music. Art was art. Go Uptown. Never look back. Be who you are. It doesn't matter where you come from, you can still be yourself.

I'm not sure what happened to that guy. He got old, more strict and theocratic along he way. It's a bummer. He went from Uptown to Uptight but I'm glad for what he gave me.

I guess I'm saying his music, at least back then, taught me the importance of embracing my individulaity and not to let people fuck me up with a negative or a homopobic vibe. He taught me to embrace my wild side and motivated more for a good long while throughout my higher education.

i can't really connect on an emotinal level to Prince's music and his voice dosen't to have that on effect on me..

If i want to listen to music that will help me go through difficult times I'll listen to Springsteen or Stevie instead.

They don't sound as out of touch with people as Prince.. there's more of a connection to be made with their music.. j

Funny how you have Funky in your name. Prince has far more funky jams than these two. razz lol So seem like you would have more connection with Prince but maybe you mean funky in another way.
