Its fucking fantastic. And saddening at the same time. Whilst I really do not like what Josh has done on the rest of the album this understated track, and the musicis truly sublime. So whilst I'll shoot him down for what is wank by numbers, it is really sad that the same guy can produce something of this quality, space and understatement. This is where his talent lies.

.

And if what we are told about the production of this album is correct then it is this space and atmosphere into which Prince has woven his vocals and lyrics, which could possibly be the same with Way Back Home. It's just a waste that Josh has this up his sleeve yet wastes his talents on sounds that he creates earlier in the album.

.

Maybe a twelve track album please Josh, in a similar vein, starting with January and going through to December?

Great Idea!

On repetaed listens I'm in love with this song. It's got a heartbreaking quality and if you really hear the lyrics, its so self aware....and while its too short, the abrubt ending starts to make sense after awhile....

.

Also I'm not sure why but I feel it is short and a little different than the rest of the album because it will somehow transition into and "make sense soon" when Phase 2 comes around wink

.

[Edited 9/9/15 21:53pm]

Didn't it make sense when he referred back to the pasta at the end of the song?

RIP sad

That was maybe a bit of an excessive statement lol

yeah, just a wee little bit. lol

Well, these things are necessarily subjective, there being no absolute objective opinion or response regarding how someone interprets music.

HOWEVER, I meant it more in terms of the similarity being two clear standout songs on an album. Not that the songs were particularly similar.

Great and atmopheric tune. The kind of song that makes you actually feel the purple mystery. Doest flow with the earlier tracks...sounds like it belonged on a deep album

Agreed. 'June' and '1000 Hugs & Kisses' are true Prince classics, imo. It's the equivalent of 'Joy in Repetition' and 'Question of U' on Graffiti Bridge.

Great song.. To me, it sounds like Prince reciting other peoples Facebook & Twitter posts. I know I've seen the "Sometimes I feel like I was born too late" thing before.

those electronic "flutter" noises kept reminding me of another song and finally it hit me

that it's madonna's "Little Star" from ray of light. so i listened to that just now. and it's

not exactly the same fluttering noise but damn, ray of light was ahead of it's time. i've

listened to "little star", "mer girl" and "has to be" just now and they completely made
me forget where i was and what time it was.

i wish prince had worked with someone like william orbit back then.

don't get me wrong, i like josh's production on hitnrun. but when you listen to an album

like ray of light it's almost painful to imagine what some of these songs could sound like

when produced by someone really very good at the whole 'electronic' sound.

Yeah it's stunning. Some of his best lyrical work in a long time. Vocals are on point to. Love the way he sings the first line and 'All I saw was another full moon' in particular

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

This song did not make my final edit of the album. Just too boring and seems to go nowhere. The Richie Havens line is beyond cheesy.

An observation: He delivers the first line in the same way/tune as he delivers the first line in the Digital Garden off of TRC.

I totally agree. It's s great song. One of my favorite post-1995 songs ever. It's very unique in his catalog.

It's one of those honest, inttrospective songs I've been talking about in other threads. It's great!
