Prince needs to start writing for himself again, and NOT the masses.

I like HitnRun, however, Prince needs to stop trying to make music in an effort to expand his audience, and rather, just make music for himself. In my opinion, his greatest music emerges when he truly does not care who the audience is or what 'reactions' to it may be. HitnRun is clearly an attempt to reach a younger demographic.

Prince is a genius, he has more money than he could possibly spend, he has more success than anyone could ever hope to attain in ones lifetime, so I am continually perplexed why the focus of creation seems to be on what generates the most money and the most 'perceived' acceptance with the masses.

In my opinion, he needs to get back to basics, lock himself in the studio, alone, cut out all extraneous noise, and write some music without any intended audience or goal in mind. It is this process where the truly great Prince music emerges from.

Peace

Right now I think the music serves to keep Prince's name current. I don't think the music is meant to generate income (per se) and not meant to generate ticket sales (those do just fine on their own).

.

The albums are more of a creative outlet -- a release valve -- that generally result in more press releases.

.

Bottom line: Prince IMO is more about the fame than he is about album sales. Don't get me wrong, he's about money too - but that's from legacy sales and concert tickets.

Yeah I would agree about the fame aspect.

Maybe it's more the desire to sound modern and relevant in the absolute than just to conquer a younger audience, u know, like a pride thing. I think being outdated is a fear every artist faces at some point, particularly in music when trends change so fast.
