Prince is being extrelemly lazy here.

he didnt bother with a real title.

he didnt bother with new songs(all the remixes).

he didnt bother producing it.

maybe this is where he wakes up,takes a three year break

and returns with a killer album and a new attitude.

not crossing my fingers though.

and didn't bother with a decent album cover

Its looking like an out and out dance album.with the latest report saying the first free songs are fast numbers. Looking like hardrocklover is the slowest song. This album is going to devide the fans down the middle!

I don't think it'll divide down the middle, more like 80-20 against. Can't see any of the old school fans liking it.

We have to wait to see what it sounds like first, but judging by hardrocklover and the superior remix of tcbu I'd say your numbers are inverted. Original Prince fans like more challenging music, and I'd say newer fans like more generic sounding music.
Newer fans to me look like the ones who would be turned off.

Don't know. It could be more of the same (hodgepodge of old school and some more modern sounding tracks; too many slow songs) or a further step in the right direction. Great? Don't think so. Problem is: Prince would need to work much harder to make an album not just another album but a masterpiece.

I'm not holding much hope 4 this one, and expecting it 2 b the worst of his career. AOA is gonna seem like a masterpiece compared 2 HITnRUN.

You seen the reaction to TCBU remix. Do you think the older 80's fans who still love Wendy & Lisa will like this new album?

Who's to say those not liking the remix are primarily 80's hard-core fans? The one on AOA is a weak track. Nothing in the 80's sounded as lame. So why do you think they would gravitate to something so lame? At least the remix has life and a great extended ending with wailing guitars reminiscent of his 80's work.

Remember 80's Prince music was never generic or weak. It was way ahead of its time. That's what 80's Prince fans expect, not grandma music. Prince was the polar opposite of old-timey grandma music. They still expect music with an edge. That's why they have overwhelmingly abandoned him and his new albums starting in the 90's. They don't want to spend money on his cheesy limp music of late. And that's a fact that been proven time and again.

I'm in my 20s and I think hardrocklover, tcbu remix and x's face are garbage. It's not because I don't understand what the songs are trying to do.

Miles

IMO -

Cons -

1. Not all new songs. This is the most disappointing thing for me. If I didn't know better, it would smack of a song-writing drought. The X's Face (not great), Fallinlove2nite (cool but the original release sounded like undercooked generic dance, so hope they've souped it up), 1000 Hugs & XXX (a nothing special ancient 90's vault song).

I don't see the point in including a remix of a track from the past album (This Could B Us) on the new one, it dilutes the new one's identity. Would be better as a one track internet release for the fans (after all, it wasn't a hit, so who else knows about it?).

Here's hoping Mr Nelson isn't a remix of Clouds, would like as many new songs as possible confused .

2. No Revelation, which sounds like one of his most promising new songs for a while, judging by the teaser we've heard.

3. The album cover is a pretty poor 'remix' of the AOA cover, which was a reasonable cover for that album, but again using a similar image makes HITnRUN look like the bonus CD to AOA more than a proper new album.

4. I've nothing against Josh, but I do hope Prince does play a lot of the instruments on the album, not just the vocals. His 'one-man-band' playing skills are part of what makes him iconic.

Pros -

1. He seems to be stepping out of his comfort zone and another electro-pop-ish album in the vein of AOA would be welcome imo. I generally like it when he tries new things.

2. Hardrocklover is good, so glad it's on here.

3. As it's supposed to be 'experimental' for him, fingers crossed no more weak nth-generation photocopies of Do Me Baby/ Adore/ Insatiable type ballads. Done to death unless he's got a real classic in his pocket.

4. A new-ish Prince solo album less than a year after the last one(s) is a good sign for more music.

So, in short, am looking forward to it, especially as it shouldn't be P by numbers like Musicology or Planet Earth, but am disappointed/ puzzled why we don't have all new songs (I expected Hardrockerlover to be present and I dig it), but see no place for weak stuff like X's Face when there's stuff like Revelation in the vault. Typical perverse Prince .

One gets the feeling HITnRUN is going to be a sort of halfway house between a proper 'new' album and the bonus/ remix disk of Art Official Age.

Apologies for the inconsistent line-spacing. I'm sick of the weird things this site does to the formatting/ paragraphing of my posts, which puts one off posting more often.

Right now, I think i'll give it a 2/5. It seems pretty weak and I only love HardRockLover. I sorta kinda like Fallinlove2nite 'cause it's fun. X's Face is a fun song but it's not great. I'll openly admit, I haven't even heard the original 1,000 Hugs & Kisses yet. The remix of This Could B Us imo is terrible compared to the original.

I think it seems like a pretty weak album not only for Prince standards but for anybody's standards in the music industry. But yeah, that's how I feel about it as of now.

yeah the more i hear what is on it the less interested i become. 1000 hugs and kisses.... is okay... the thing i curious about is if he changed the lyric about unplugging the phone... today that means something a little different than when the song was recorded. "why would he not want to charge his cell?"

I was optimistic when I heard 'Hardrocklover', but 'This Could Be Us' sort of killed that.

Well, that & all the annoying press he's currently doing.

I expect a lot of bragging, complaining about business & not getting paid, (bragging about how much money he has & THEN complaining about not getting paid!) celebrity namechecks, Biblical references (misconstrued to fit whatever his belief du jour is) & a lot of cringing.

I guess not all my optimism is gone, because I'm still hoping he proves me wrong.

I agree with whoever said he'd end up falling out with TIDAL after this one tanks, tho.

I've been giving my first impressions reviews for years, and I'll give a first listen review to HNR, I never stand by anything I say on a first listen - it's a first impression nothing more. But my expectations for this, based on what we know about, the way it's been handled etc - are lower than ever, I expect this tidal shit to be over in the blink of an eye.

word? "middle-aged"? I'm 17 and I think the artwork, the concept, and most or some of the songs he already put out (except for HardRockLover) are lame. The album seems pretty weak even compared to AOA.

Most of his fans are middle age so that's basically an insult to the Purple OG's and their opinions..

The adventure continues today, it's better than being elegiac and walking around like a sacred relic.

With his little plan Prince has it both ways: he's a legend that's still a maverick. Outisde of the Org and a few douchebag communities, Prince is widely known and respected both as a seminal artist and someone who still wow crowds live, which is more than you can say for many multi-decade acts.

Hiw willingness to brazenly and summarily collaborate with this group is yet another proof this guy can't rest and needs to create, he's just doing it differtly.

I wish his "cool factor" (i.e. his current hipness) and live performance hype would translate into more album sales.

It starts fast with Million $ Show, and by then end it's slow-tempo with June.

but I don't like how they cut out the part where in Million $ Show, Prince says "You're about to witness something you never seen before.. don't listen to the people sayin' "fear the fro'",

Welcome to the million million million million dollar show!"

I guess that was just for the concerts. Although Judith did say the line about the fro' later on so I guess that makes up for it.

Right now my faves are like

1) HardCockLover

2) Million $ Show

3) 1,000 Hugs N Kisses

4) Shut This Down

One thing for sure though, it's great value for money lol
