Prince and ELO

Is there any connection? Has Prince ever mentioned them? Both Prince and Jeff Lynne became absolute masters of studio technology and loved electronic sounds and weird voice effects, and elaborate song endings. They should collaborate! p.s. just rediscovered "Time". What a fantastic album! And very prescient in its post-human musings and general doom laden air.

Well, Prince played with Jeff Lynne at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" tribute to George Harrison.

It was Prince, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood and Dhani Harrison.

If you've not seen that clip, go check it out on YouTube. Prince is phenomenal right there.

He preformed Starfish and Coffee on the muppets but I don't think he has ever collaborated with Elmo.

Katy Perry, Will I Am, Usher, Bruno Mars and Michael Buble have though so it's about time.

Huge ELO fan here. I see some similarities to Prince as Lynne is an all around talent who doens't get near as much credit as he deserves. New World Record is one of my all time fave albums. Time a great one as well.

So great to see Time get some love here.

ELO is great and I appreciate Jeff Lynne's dedication to songcraft. As much as he is a great producer and likes to work with elaborate sounds, the song (hook, chorus, arrangment) are number 1.

And, I have to mention that every time I hear "Another Lonely Christmas" I think about ELO's "Telephone Line". Something about the way Prince sings, "another lonely, lonely Christmas...." reminds me of that ELo song.

So biggrin , there's your connection!
