Last 10 Years, Rank.

These last 10 years for Prince have been up and downs. Different personal opinions, different tastes in what people think is a good album, boring album, great album...

Where do you rank the official released albums by Prince in the last 10 years, not including internet albums like C-Note and live compilations like Indigo Nights...

From 2004-2014 (Musicology - Plectrum Electrum)

1. 3121 (4 me personally it's the most complete album, Fury and The Word are amazing)

2. Art Official Age (Flows really well as an overall ALBUM. Yes a little plastic and stale, but put together it's a solid average album)

3. Musicology (Has some great tracks, gets a little boring at the end, but none the less still an OK album.)

4. Plectrum Electrum (The more I listened to it, the more I can appreciate AnotherLove, WOW, Plectrum Electrum. Some good songs but overall not a strong album)

5. Lotusflow3r (Dreamer is hands down the best song on the album IMO, Colonized Mind is a great song, the rest gets a little dull...)

6. 20Ten (Really feels all the same the whole album, but I think Sticky Like Glue and Future Soul Song are some of his best songs from the last 10 years.)

7. Planet Earth (I understand as an album it flows a little better than most of his albums released however, it's just too boring and bland of an album for me...

8. MPLS Sound (Dance 4 Me is a cool song but the rest is just really awfull.)

3. Musicology

4. Plectrum Electrum

5. Lotusflow3r

6. 20Ten

7. Planet Earth

8. MPLS Sound

Plectrum Electrum imo should be at the bottom.

basically my list would be like yours except switch LotusFlow3r with Muicology, and put Plec at the very bottom where it belongs.

Lotusflow3r and 3121 for me, are great Prince albums. They rank right up there as ATWIAD in the 80's and Come in the 90's. Interesting how most of those came from the same sessions... Something must have been in the water at that time with Prince. Personally, I think it was because with Musicology, he was just starting to play all his own instruments again. He'd just gone on a massive tour. Had a massive comeback. Something was special. And I really don't understand how fans of classic Prince don't get those albums.

I like the winning trio proposed, it's accurate.

But hey, talking live, there has been some pretty good shit.
Montreux, "Bambi" Paradisio Amsterdam with 3EG, The whole Musicology Tour, the R'n'R Hall of Fame and the Superbowl, the Jimmy Kimmel Dance Electric and better-than-the-record version of "Dark".

Not to mention the SNL Fury.

Ladies and gents, 30 years after, still the Greatest Live Performer of all.

I agree with your statements for the most part. I think LotusFlower is definitely my favorite album off of your list, Colonized Mind by far being my favorite track from the album (followed by Crimson and Clover).
3121 is pretty solid too. Big fan of The Dance smile

I really wanted to like Plectrum Electrum when it came out. Mainly because I liked the track Plectrum Electrum so much. Another Love is strong too, but the rest of the album is pretty weak (I don't want to know what His Royal Badness was thinking when he thought Boy Trouble would make a good release)

20Ten in my opinion was a let down. The only track I enjoyed was Laydown, and I had to suffer through the rest of the CD in order to reach it haha

C-Note was a live compilation falloff

Anyway my favorite studio albums from 2004-2014 (also excluding TS and TCI because they were sort of 2001 but including the side-projects) would be (today at least):

1. Mplsound

2. Lotusflow3r

3. Elixer

4. 3121

5. 20ten

6. Superconductor

7. Plectrumelectrum

8. Musicology

9. Art Official Age

10. Planet Earth

11. Back In Time

1 Lotus flower/MPLSOUND - I consider this a double album and it works together
as a complete prince classic. Ballads to rockers. Funk to jazz.

2. Art official age- for a straight r&b album its tops notch. Great production.
and conceptually entertaining

3. Planet earth- a good overall album. I can listen to every song. No skip.

4. Musicology - I love the this album for its sound.it sounds very complete.
I can see why this brought him back to life caus its a solid peace of work

5. 3121 - FURY, BLACK SWEAT are both classics in his whole catalog to me. And most
of these songs I dont mind listening to. But there is obvious filler...lolita

6. 20ten - other than sticky like glue and lavaux this album is rubbish

7. Plectrumelectrum - other than another love.. this os utter rubbish

overall I am a big fan of his 2000s output. Can dig it equally with his 90s music

ok, that's cool. do you like all of the songs? personally, i *love* the songs that
i love on it, but i really don't care for the ones i don't love. if that makes sense

at all lol

"dance 4 me", "here", "old skool company" and "no more candy 4 u" are great

tracks. i even like "(there will never b) another like me)" most days smile i do like

"u're gonna c me" but i just adore the original so it feels kind of 'off' and pulls

me out of the album as such.

yeah, i'll stop now lol

For me, Lotusflower is the standout of the last decade, and I also associate it with the 2009 Montreux performances which I rank among his best, ever.

.

Lotusflower

Musicology

3121

20Ten

MPLSound

AOA

Planet Earth / PlectrumElectrum

.

(PE and PE share initials and a ranking in my mind - and not a good one)

I agree. I believe 3121 is the most complete Prince album of the last 10 years... Each album has their inconsistencies, however IMO 3121 is the strongest. Love, The Word, Fury, The Dance, Black Sweat, some great songs on that album.

1. Musicology (not great, but I find I can listen to this one the whole way through and skip only one or two songs (yes, Life O The Party, I am talking about you))

2. 3121 (LOVE the title track sooooo much!! But the rest is kinda meh)

3. Lotusflower (comes close to being great but misses)

4. Art Official Age (haven't listened to it in almost a year, which is saying something)

5. Plectrum Electrum (I like Stop This Train the most. eek Reminds me of something he would have given Sheila or Jill back in the day)

6. 20Ten (Laydown saves it from being last)

7. MPLSound (Dance 4 Me saves it from being last)

8. Planet Earth (just so boring)
