He was kinda homophobic before then, see 'Bambi'.

Although I can kind of forgive him that it was the 70's and stuff like that was more acceptable back in the day. Makes me sad that such a good track has homophobic undertones.

I don't think "Bambi" is homophobic.

I hear it more like "Why is she getting in your underwear instead of me"?

It was a clever move, usually with pop lyrics the love rival is of the same sex as the song performer.

I never unxerstood the love for this done. I'm supposed to feel all sappy and sad for this gigalo from some bad movie?

The mention of "Tracey" is irrelevant in the long run.

It's a song about loss and death. It's a song about a "gone too soon" friend.
It has Wendy, Lisa, and a stool that creaks.

Come on, it's poignant.

What's wrong with you, you insensitive purple freak?

Awww...c'mom....I'm not insensitive. Somehow, I guess, I just never got fought into the emotion of this song. I give it a spin every now and then...I just don't get it.

These "How is it possible that the same guy who..." statements can be said about anyone who is older than 45 years old and who practiced their craft or some sport over decades, including here on the Org.

Hey how is it possible I can't stay up all night and work all day anymore?

How is it possible I authored an article that's not as genius as the one I wrote when I was 30 (answer: I wrote a lot of them of varying quality).

He's still capable of great songs, can make something very enjoyable even if t's not the new "Housequake".

I kind of liked Another Like Me when it was called Disco Jellyfish and had no lyrics. It's just crazy to me how such empty bragging can come from the same person who was so vulnerable and open, at least on his records. But I'm glad he's still going. There are still some gems coming along.

That was "Chocolate Box."

oh no.. chocolate box... what a HORRIBLE SonG!!!!!!!!

but Sometimes it Snows it just remarkable.. my goodness.... that whole album is so beautiful...

i agree with a lot of the comments... it feels like all we get now are bad versions of Life of the Party...

yes... bad versions of a song that was really terrible to begin with!

i dont know whats up with me.. i am just HATING on P ever since i listened to that This Could be Us remix... come on.. a remix of a song from your last album? and its being sold to us as 'experimental'?

hannah has been drinking too much jesus juice...

ok.. im logging off... gonna dig in to some 80s outtakes and remember the old P i loved.

the new prince needs to cut the fro, drop the bible and deliver us them damn remasters already

I'm sure you aren't. hug

Well, for one thing, it's very Wendy-and-Lisa-ish.
It's the pinnacle of what the three together could do together as musicians.
Or at least in the soft side department.
It's the "Kiss" of all ballads in any genre, it's so minimalistic.
"Fragile" by Sting sounds like AC/DC next to SISIA.
The closest thing we have from Prince that resembles Bob Dylan circa "Blood On The Tracks".
Because of course, "Tracey" is Susannah and Prince's relationship,
and carries the same suffering from departure found in "Purple Rain",
minus the north american grandiloquence of it.

An option could have been to call Clare Fischer and see what he would come up with.
But here is Genius again. He leavs the stool creaking IN the mix.
He adds no string quartet nor rain FX.
It has one of the best intros in all pop history,
making the ethereal softness of Liz Frazier's voice sound something acid.

This is a record that makes me wonder if, like "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley, it is one take.

And it's acoustic. There's never enough Acoustic Skipper.
And in April, we don't have a Piano/Strings preset to hide behind (ONA Live),

it's raw meat, no reverb (or just what it needs).

"Turn off the chorus effect, the flanger, the phaser, cut the bullshit.
It's Lisa on a piano, and it's acoustic guitars for Wendy and Prince.
Let's see what we can do."
I think they did pretty well.

Maybe try to listen to it from this angle : most of, if not all the time,
Prince records his lead vocals track all alone, by himself.
Most of, if not all the time, Skipper does overdubs.

You just stated the obvious. If things take more time when you reach a certain age, then it's time for Skipper to stop thinking he can still write, compose, produce, record and mix something valuable in 48 hours.

"TCBU new version" sounds about 48 minutes.

Let's have 48 days on one song only for a change, even if it takes 48 months before a new release.

Not being judgemental, just curious : which songs would you define as "poignant"
in Prince's repertoire?

Yeah I agree the 'Tracy' is completely irrelevant. He could have used any name. The message is universal, poignant and beautifully delivered.
I got two sides... and they're both friends.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The love we make, love...thy will b done, 4 the tears in your eyes, in this bed I scream...all get me emotional. Bed i scream and love we make lend more to poignancy than the rest. But these all get me thinking, and on occasion choked up.
