What (falsetto) do you wish had been recorded in Princes lower register?

My first purchased Prince album was as a teem back in 1984 (Purple Rain) and I was hooked. I knew the singles from 1999 and very vaguely knew of " I Wanna Be Your Lover". after listening to Purple Rain more times that I can count I was super excited to purchase his back catalog of albums and I remember the first being Prince and then Dirty Mind and I was schocked that all the songs were recorded in Princes falsetto voice. I got used to it and eventually was very appreciative that he can sing in various voices, If there was one song I would have loved to hear him sing in his lower register or rock voice though it would have been UPTOWN
It is such an iconic song in the Prince canon that I would love a heavier voice making it more "fuller"

What song might you have changed from his falsetto or Camille or lower voice?

I 100% understand your post. Prince is very unique in the way that throughout his entire career, he's sung falsetto on songs you wouldn't think he should (like 'Uptown' or 'Bambi'). This in all makes him unique and I LOVE his falsetto, but I sometimes wish he used his regular/lower register on those tracks. I love his lower voice. I personally think the falsetto works best with ballads, but not with uptempo songs. I tried to publicize this a few months ago, but I got hate for criticizing P's legendary falsetto lol

When I was digging '1999' and 'Purple Rain' in the beginning of my fan days, it was also hard to suddenly get used to buying his pre-1999 works and hear the different voice. It works, and was very daring, but I would love it if I could just hear "Private Joy", "Sexuality", "When You Were Mine" (there's an AMAZING version from the Lovesexy rehearsals), "Uptown", "Head", and the entire "Prince" and "For You" albums in Prince's regular voice. I love it. But again, his falsetto is amazing (I won't say the best because I haven't listened to enough falsetto vocalists to make a declaration like that), but it's stunning. I think I read somewhere that P was hesitant about using his chest voice at the beginning. Either way, his falsetto on his first few albums got really good reviews.. I mean, just listen to "Baby" or "Insatiable" and tell me he doesn't produce some nad-less sounding shrieks lol

But that's the beauty of Prince's voice. He has a slightly nasally midtempo ("Sign o' the Times", "Alphabet St.", "Raspberry Beret"), a sexy breathy smoother voice ("Cream", "Little Red Corvette", "Thieves in the Temple"), a deeep dark range ("Peach", "Diamonds and Pearls", "I Love U in Me"), a raspy falsetto ("Partyup", "Push", "Scandalous"), and one of the highest delicate falsettos I've ever heard ("The Beautiful Ones", "Insatiable", "Goodbye"). It's quite amazing.

For some reason, I want to hear a normal version of 'Adore', just for kicks (no pun intended)

There's enough harmonies in that song, in both registers, that I can just zone in on and listen to the song following a particular harmony.
I got two sides... and they're both friends.

Looking at this the other way round, I have always wanted to hear a studio version of I Love U In Me in falsetto. Then finally, many years later, he did it live and it was amazing!

Neither of those songs are sung in a falsetto - just pitch-altered.

.

I'd choose Willing & Able, though I like the falsetto a lot on that one. The video version smoked the album version. Maybe also When The Lights Go Down.

No! (I disagree)

Kiss and Soft & Wet (and the rest) needs to be in the original falsetto.... cool

I really don't understand the question here.. it's like asking the Bee Gees to sing like Barry White - without their famous falsettos... why would anyone change their succesful trademark like that.. lol

Prince is famous for his fantastic falsetto, no need to change it at all, imo.... wink

Not a one should be any different than Prince intended it to be.

That falsetto is a gift from God.
