In 1980,my mother was raving about a song she had heard at a friend's house. The song was "Still Waiting".A few days later,I come home from school and she's got the album and she's playing that song over and over and over and over, lol Anyway, that was my introduction to Prince.

I love the cursive on his name. I would do this with it, but I'm too scared. What?

I don't know why I used to love the album cover before, because that is FUCKING HORRIBLE LOL. He looks like a creepy gay male porn star. One thing I've noticed is that he seemed much heavier on that cover than he did in the '80s. And is it true they darkened the cover so he would appeal to the R&B market? he looked lighter on American Bandstand [Edited 8/1/15 13:20pm] Maybe do, just not like did before

One of my favorite eras! I think he adopted the perm look because he probably got tired of people asking him if he was one of the Sylvers. Never heard the "darkened rumour". "Lover" was the first time I heard his music and AB was the first time I ever saw him on TV. EVERYBODY in my school talked about his AB performance that following Monday. A week later I bought "Prince".

I don't think it's horrible, I mean do a run of albums from the 70s, this is plain. And I think the album like the first album image were both darkened. But not to appeal to an R&B market. Prince was clear he did not want to be held into on musical catagory

I Wanna Be Your Lover I ain't got no money
I ain't like those other guys you hang around And it's kinda funny But they always seem to let you down And I get discouraged 'cause I never see you anymore And I need your love, babe yeah That's all I'm living for, yeah I didn't wanna pressure you, baby But all I ever wanted to do I wanna be your lover I wanna be the only one that makes you come running I wanna be your lover I wanna turn you on, turn you out, all night long, make you shout Oh, lover! Yeah I wanna be the only one you come for I wanna be your brother I wanna be your mother and your sister, too There ain't no other That can do the things that I'll do to you And I get discouraged 'cause you treat me just like a child And they say I'm so shy, yeah But with you I just go wild! I didn't wanna pressure you, baby. No! But all I ever wanted to do I wanna be your lover I wanna be the only one that makes you come running I wanna be your lov I wanna turn you on, turn you out, all night long make you shout Oh, lover! Yeah I wanna be the only one you come for, yeah

Those aren't even my words, they're descriptions I've heard several times about that cover It looks pretty creepy, the whole pose, the no-shirt, the staring into the camera, and etc.. Some Prince fans may like it, but I've heard a lot of insults directed at this album lol. That's what I mean Maybe do, just not like did before

Shave that mustache and you have the Lovesexy/Batman era. Maybe do, just not like did before

I believe those words are people deflecting of their own inner issues lol I see a lot of Rod Stewart style in this early Prince I don't know if it actually is, I could just be photography and wrong makeup
He is darker on his Controversy album too * I just had Windows 10 installed I don't know how to make the picture smaller

You're cool with the cover, I dig that I just don't like it, but I think you may be on to something what you said about inner issues when it comes to some people (the ultra macho crowd) Maybe do, just not like did before

i remember watching american bandstand back in 1980 and catching prince's performance.. was chilling with a bunch of friends and we watched it and damn lol it was quite a sight to see. prince looked flamboyant as hell. i really liked the songs he sang but hated that "dancing" he did at the end lol!

"...i wanna be your, brother...", then he grabs Andre's shirt and pulls him in closer...i remember thinking they were about to kiss...but he spun away and sashayed over to gayle chapman.....good times
