People are forgetting that he said the internet was over for artists to make money off of.

Loook at that app VINE and those 16 year old dorks who have no talent making millions.... The internet is not dead, and it's making more idiots rich...

However it is leading PRINCE into obscurity when he keeps removing his ART and TALENT and VISIBILITY to the world.

Prince said that when he had an album to promote. It got a lot of headlines and people found out he had an album out and it probably helped sales. Don't believe everyone someone says to the media.

Wasn't it true that many music artists felt they weren't getting good profit deals on streaming their work? In fact just last week you had Apple music willed into action by Taylor Swift to go ahead and pay the artists for the 3 month trail period where millions will be getting their music.

He said that when he was touring Europe in 2011. No album in that year.

I'm sick of people saying "the Internet is the best thing ever" (no offense).
You know what, the internet needs to DIE!

But oh the irony with my statement and what I'm obviously using to make my statement

This was a glib, throwaway comment he made in an interview 5 years ago. We may a well be talking about how Interactive is an out of date computer program that shouldn't be released in 2015.

He also proclaimed 'Prince is Dead' at one point.

Don't believe everything Prince says & don't let it worry you.

It's best to act like he never said it, just like he does.

This is correct in terms of music and what he meant. Sales are low and Prince does not like low sales.

I don't know why people still think he meant the net is dead as a whole, check out the whole interview. This reminds me of the horrible yahoo and fox news head lines like :

Bigfoot Found!.......to be an interesting subject by many people.

Lol

It's also responsible for some astounding artistic and scientific collaborations.
.
But yeah, sure, let's focus on how over-priced record outlets & music companies refused to change with the times & ended up cutting their own throats...

Context.

"I really believe in finding new ways to distribute my music," pop legend Prince told the Daily Mirror in an exclusive interview today.

Puzzling, then, that the musical icon also said he deplores online and other digital means of music distribution.

"The Internet's completely over," he said. "I don't see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won't pay me an advance for it, and then they get angry when they can't get it."

Also worth note is that nowhere in the interview does Prince actually say he deplores online and other digital means of music distribution.

Speculation: Since it's come to light that Spotify pays Sony Music a yearly advance into the tens of millions of dollars. It's equally possible Apple also pays record companies an advance. It's no surprise then that Prince feels he deserves the same since without the artists, the record companies would have nothing worth paying an advance for.

He said this in 2010... when he released 20ten... via newspapers and magazines. Not online. This provides adequate context as to why he would suggest the internet is over - he wasn't using it. He has since continued to use the internet to release music and videos.

Conclusion: Celebrities say things to get attention.

The Internet is dead..yeah? Just let all the artist give away their music in Newspapers...

I think the digital revolution (of which the internet is a part of) is both the best and the worst thing that happened to music. I remember the days when folks would wait in lines for the new release from their favourite artists. Music was so important to us kids back then. No nearly so important now. No more record stores...gone!

But on the other hand...just so much access to whatever you want. Instantly...all you need is an itunes and/or amazon account..amazing.
