1. Sign "O" The Times 2. Purple Rain 3. 1999 . Those top 3, I absolutely cannot live without. They are essential. 1999 even borders on taking the #2 spot depending on my mood. . 4. Lovesexy 5. Controversy 6. Parade . These 3, I don't listen to often as the Top 3, but they are nothing short of gorgeous when I do. Controversy has a distinct New Wave base, and Parade/Lovesexy have instrumentation unlike any other Prince albums. . 7. Love Symbol 8. The Gold Experience 9. LotusFlow3r 10. Art Official Age . It was really hard to condense this into 10 albums, and it was also not easy excluding "Golden Era" albums like Dirty Mind and ATWIAD.

Newpower Soul a fave album, whhhhhaaatttttt?!!!!!! It is easily my least fave Prince album.The Top 5 never change, but the 2nd 5 are a bit more fluid, depends on my mood. . 1. SOTT (Because it is the greatest album made by anyone period, a masterclass in all the styles of 1980s popular music) 2. 1999 (Quirky, experimental, keyboard laden, sexified and perfect pop) 3. Parade (Balletic and beautiful French Infused pop and funk) 4. Dirty Mind (A softcore porn and funk masterpiece, Prince's big fuck you to the world, love it) 5. Purple Rain (Because it is Purple Rain) 6. The Gold Experience 7. Lovesexy 8. Controversy 9. Art Official Age 10. 20ten (Because I have really listened to it a lot lately and it is really under appreciated)

I am still diggin it enough to keep it in my top 10 as its the first new album in AGES that I still listen to this long after the release. I also think its original enough that it will stay on for awhile. However my top 10 changes constantly. Gold Experience has always been up there...but its really aging badly imo so it slid out this time around...however Emancipation has been rising lately as there are so many good songs on there. I have been listening to it a lot lately. |
