From what we know of live performances (and excluding the period up until his first live performance) then it is likely to be between 6 January 1979 up until 26 November 1979 (which also discounts the two showcases for WB at the Leeds Rehearsal Facility).

Didn't he stop touring from Spring of 85 until Spring or Summer of 86?

^ Yes, he wasn't touring: the final concert of the Purple Rain tour was 7 April 1985 and the US Hit N Run appearances of 1986 started in April of the following year. However, there were known live performances interspersed between these two points, including guest appearances, For example:

7 June 1985
11 July 1985

27 October 1985

1 February 1986

3 March 1986

6 March 1986

8 March 1986

If so, the longest period by month in the last 15 years (going back to January 2000) has been the 6 month period between November 2009 to April 2010.

After the 8/3/83 show, he didn't play live until the award show on 5/21/84. There are rumours that he jammed on 12/23/83, but so far, I haven't heard any proof. If this is the case that he didn't play, that is almost 10 months. If he did play then, then this is another short period.

Yes - the period is slightly shorter if you include his guest appearance on 20 August 1983.

I forgot about the JB show. The Dec. 83 show came from The Vault/Uptown and usually the stuff published was pretty accurate.
