1. not funky, kind of pseudo music, sounds like crap, very far from "good Prince music" (whatever that is these years)

2. not good pop music either, no melody

3. backing vocals sounds awful "false" to me,

The only kind of good is: the guitar in the middle.

I am an old fan, I remember what it was like when a new Prince song was released in the 80s early/mid 90s...

Back then I was like everytime, from 1983 up to 1995.......

The problems began in 1996 post- Warner.

(I still enjoy some songs on the albums nowadays, but in general the quality isn't aware like that anymore).

yeah it is a fine song. i like the vocals and the sound and the tempo but they lyrics are weak to down right silly and then one line totally turns off millions of people. I have to say I was seeing postings on other sites about the line about guns and it did not go over well at all. I did a bit of defending bit not much can be said. it was a bad mistake.

Why do some people equate outlawing guns to Nazism? In the state of New York only law enforcement can have hand guns and as far as I know they have not been taken over by steel booted nazis. Neither has Australia, the UK, Switzerland....

With that said I did this song. It's a stripped back soft rock protest song. I like the line about taking guns away, they do more harm than good. Props to Prince for saying what he believes and not saying what people want him to say. I will be playing this song reguarly.

I don't think he wrote this song with the hit parade in mind or to come up with something musically groundbreaking and super-original, he recorded it to express himself on Baltimore. He did so with some quintessential elements we've heard before but they're well suited for what the song is supposed to be.

no it was a hit despite its makeup. I still remember getting the 12" and LOLing at the cover...not sure who it was but it was cool... and putting it on the record player with head phones and i got vertigo... i felt as if i was falling.

Prince was is? a natural at what works...but according to Wendy and Lisa he dosn't know why! He doesn't know music theory...

I sumise that he keep trying too hard to make a hit as opposed to letting it come natral.
