P albums on Spotify

Can somone tell me why there are quite a few Prince albums on Spotify but not all? I am missing The Gold Experience and Come for instance, and I started wondering why some of them are left out. Anyone knows??

I'm not really sure of the legal reasons behind the unavailability of those albums (pretty much anything post Come it seems like, barring Plectrum Electrum and AOA) but that's the case on every digital outlet and not just streaming services like Spotify. So there is no way to legitimately stream or buy those albums digitally, so your only choice is either to find second-hand physically copies (I'd imagine they can be bought fairly cheaply on Amazon Marketplace and Ebay) or pirate them. Either way Prince doesn't get any money, so the current situation seems to pretty much be lose-lose for everyone, but there you go.

I'm sure someone more knowledgable here can tell you about the legal situation of these albums.

Buy the CDs they are so cheap, sound better, you can make your own MP3 copy to keep, get album art and liner notes, and if the cd is a major inconvenience to keep them you can always resell or give to charity yes yes

There are several that might not even be available to buy second-hand, since they're so rare. One Nite Alone Piano and Voice, Rave IN2, Chocolate Invasion, Slaughterhouse. Fanclub only stuff.

Probably available to pirate though.

Do you have the Spotify membership since you say that Come is on Spotify? Because I have searched for it and it is nowhere to be found as far as I can see - but I have the free Spotify version, and of course that might be the reason. But if so it´s a bit strange that it´s just the Come album that is excluded from the free version because I have found all the other albums on the list below.

I have Spotfiy premium so I don't know if that means I get access to more Prince music or what...

However Diamonds and Pearls is under Prince and The NPG not Prince.

Come and Planet Earth are indeed on Spotify as well.

It's there on mine, at least for the U.S. Premium version of Spotify.

Also all the maxi singles for Get Off and Violet The Organ Grinder are there as well...

It´s a bit odd that it seems like it´s different from one person to another which albums they get access to on Spotify. I understand that I don´t get access to everything since I have the free version but everybody with Spotify Premium should get the same, wouldn´t you think?

I don't know about albums that have been out for a while, but I do remember that when I had the free version of Spotify some new releases were greyed out and were only available for those on premium, I assume they joined the free version a while after their release, but I don't know the details. There are also some albums even on the UK premium version that are greyed out, as apparently the record company hasn't made them available in our country, must be some kind of licensing issue in different countries I assume.

Also, I've got Come in my Spotify (heh) so IDK what the issue is there.

Also on Spotify:

.

fDeluxe - all of their new music

The Time (all Prince-era albums)

The Original Se7en

Sheila E (including the Prince-era albums)

Wendy & Lisa (a few albums missing, but still well represented on Spotify)

Stevie Wonder - A Time To Love (featuring Prince on a few songs)

Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U

Bangles - Different Light (w/Manic Monday)

Martika - Martika's Kitchen (entire album)

.

I'm sure there are plenty more, but my point is that there is plenty of Prince-related listening to be had for free on Spotify.

.

I'm sure the reasons for Prince's rarer albums being missing are either financial or personal.

No physical CDs, but I was just referring to the overall rarity of them. Most people will never hear them, let alone own them.

Same goes for CNOTE and Xpectation. Fanclub only stuff, and never physically released.

If someone does hear them now, they're most likely pirated.

You're probably right. I thought he was featured on several but only credited on SWTF (similar to Madonna's Like A Prayer album).
