I cant make you love me - simply horrible

la la la means i love u = corny

betcha by golly wow - awful

I think the problem with these three covers is simply,the original versions are already great.There was no room for improvement.Nobody (not even Prince) should ever attempt to cover Philly soul classics by The Delfonics and the Stylistics! lol Furthermore,I think there are only a handful of artists who can remake a song and make it sound better than the original.Luther Vandross was a genuis at that but let's face it,Prince isn't.

You're right, but...

His cover of "La, La, La (Means I Love U)" has really great vocals by him. Maybe having both, "La, La, La" and "Betcha By Golly", on the same album release is a bit redudant, but his vocal performance on "La, La, La" certainly justifies its inclusion to me.

I think his version of "I Can't Make U Love" is interesting because he does it more in his own style. It's actually one of his most satifying recordings of that particular kind from the 90s, in my view. It's still better than most of the ballads on the 2nd disc of Emancipation (again, "in my view").

I'm sure people who say these songs shouldn't have been included on Emancipation still sing along to them when listening to them. lol

Personally, I never liked his cover of Betcha By Golly because

(1) I was always a huge fan of the version by Norman Connors;

(2) I couldn't shake the feeling he was trying (stylistically and in terms of success) to replicate The Most Beautiful Girl In The World.

But let's not forget the album was called Emancipation and Prince is free to record whatever he likes!

If you have to ask that, why are you here?

Did you even listen?

Find a list of covers?

Grade them?

Post that list here?
