Show your love for The GOLD EXPERIENCE

As King sausage has said, there has been a lot of hating on this epic album. To all you haters I suggest you listen to it again and then reassess if you hate it.

.

Because this album is good like. This is a review I wrote on the Peach and Black Podcast boards a while ago and it still rings true now. I typethis as the sexy guitar solo of Shh! is playing with Prince's and a girls moaning behind an invincible Michael B drum track. Something not found on Princes 1990s albums at all. Note some of the comments are a bit dated as I wrote it in July 2013, long before AOA dropped.

.

PRINCE - THE GOLD EXPERIENCE REVIEW.

.

This is one of my favourite Prince albums of all time and is the best Post Sign o the times. Its by far his best and most focused later album. I love the sound, Prince's singing and playing, the NPG, Sonny Thompson and his bass, Michael Bland on the drums and the whole feel of it.
.
I remember waiting for it to be released all through 1995, when from April onwards there was the rumour "The Gold experience was going to be released soon with no fanfare" and I wanted it to be released as I had read about this secret album in all the mags and Prince (Sorry Symbol then) having this album of invincible music that was going to blow Purple Rain to pieces. Going to the store and hearing "Sorry its not in yet or more likely "Who is Symbol" and "What is the Gold Experience". Finally I hear September 26.
.
I miss a lecture to get to the wrekka stow and I am the first through the door, they have a display (They won't give it to me). I am the only one who buys it at opening. I can't believe it, as I go home (Or back to my hall of residence room and just blast it. Its love at first listen and then after Pussy Control which is okay (Yeah another rap - so what), Endorphinmachine comes on and I am (WOW!) <img src=" /> and then realise the thing is a killer and listen to it non stop for the next month.
.
I still listen to the album all the time now, its that great and it should have been number one for weeks. I was 19 at the time and doing my first year at uni and just honestly thought, this album was the greatest thing to be living through in my lifetime.
.
Song by song
.
NPG Operator - a bit silly, but the mid 90s was the age of segues and skits on any Rap/Funk/R and B albums and at least she sounds quite sexy and the segues make it sound like a computer.
.
Pussy Control - Empowering funky rap, not bad, a little silly but I like it, still on this album its a lesser track - 7.5/10
.
Endorphinmachine - Like you guys, this is a masterpiece and I just love the lyrix, the rawk factor and its funkiness, the crazy scream at the end and just love it. 10/10 with no hesitation.
.
Shhh! - One of his finest ballads and sexiest, probably one of his best ballads of the 90s, this is great, smooth and funny lyrics like "I'd rather do u after school like some homework" Its a shame this would be the last great steamy ballad he would make - 10/10 again (Written before AOA and this Could be us came out)
.
We March - Positive feel and topics, good beat, but again this is a lesser song on the set, like you guys said, its probably the most skippable on this set, but remember the standard on this album is extremely high and this song would be a highlight on many lesser sets like Come, Emancipation and Symbol. - 7/10
.
Most Beautiful Girl in the world - More overproduced and glossed up version of the original, its still a great song and no amount of over producing can ruin this, I agree with you guys, a bit saccharine, but still great. 9/10
.
Dolphin - I truly love this, glossy but sharp rock and roll feel, great lyrics and singing, Michael pounding away at the drums, and like you guys said the underwater guitar pedal. It is one of my favourite Prince songs of all time, this is top notch Prince - 10/10
.
Now - Another rambunctious, there is a party in yo ear sound cut from this set. I love the lyrics, singing and even Prince's rapping, the drug reference "Light us up and take a hit". Bombastic drumming again. This is great too, and I can not see why he didn't also put it on Exodus amongst all the crappy segues. This has a real NPG Partaay feel. - 9/10
.
319 - Another sexy ballad/pop/seduction cut, is Prince taking dirty pictures or something, great semi Kiss feel, amazing lyrics. "I just wanna holla, scream and shout when u make ur fingers do the walking in and out" like you guys said that's clever, his squeals and its just more great music. How much supreme cuts can he put on one set. Its 10/10 again
.
Shy - Like you guys said, some dark and strange lyrics, but still a great lyrical story, playing and melody and Prince is singing along well. This is still a very good song. Not as great as most of the others, but still good - 8/10
.
Billy Jack Bitch - Like you guys said, a great dis track, amazing beats, rapping and singing and again Michael Bland blowing people away with his drum kit. 9/10
.
Eye Hate U - Another perfect and sexy pop song. Its a ballad too and Prince is singing about an irresistible but out of control minx, its great and I love the courtroom scene, like you guys said (Again) "State your name for the court" "Billy Jack Bitch". 10/10
.
Gold - A powerful rock closer, a lot like dolphin, this has the epic Purple Rain feel to it and is the Purple Rain for the 90s, a great great feel, the song lifts you up and soars and has a powerful climax and close. An excellent closer and again a supreme cut. 10/10.
.
Overall its a great great great album and it has not been topped since. It ranks in 6th place in my favourite albums and this is easily 9/10 maybe 9.2/10 (I am a teacher and rate very strictly). I agree totally with you guys, its a brilliant album, its called Gold and that's what Prince/Symbol/TAFKAP/Whatever gives us here.
.
For interest, my favourite studio albums (I like a bunch of others I can not mention too).
.
1. Sign o the Times 9.8/10
2. 1999 9.6/10
3. Purple Rain 9.5/10
4. Dirty Mind 9.3/10
5. Parade 9.3/10
6. The Gold Experience 9.1/10
7. Lovesexy 8.7/10
8. Crystal Ball 8.6/10
9. Controversy 8.5/10
10. Around the World in a day 8.4/10.

.

I agree with you this is a great album, it is the album by Prince that I listen to most even though Lovesexy is my favorite. I have it on CD and vinyl. Shh, End or on in machine and Shy are in my top 10 favorite Prince songs. If this album was a woman I'd marry it.

Yes: So wonderful... cloud9 cloud9

And I have the 2LP vinyl as well.... heart

The Gold Experience-album is the Sign "O" The Times-album of the 90s..! So varied, so many genres and styles, and also very strong all the way through.

Best songs.... Shhh, Dolphin, Eye Hate U, Gold, Now, Pussy Control.

Only weak song, (but I like it nevertheless).... We March.

Also, too bad the original and the best version if The Most Beautiful Girl isn't included.

Maybe too many seagues as well, but the MUSIC is stunning... indeed this album is a Prince masterpiece. Wonderful.. so many great memories - also to the Gold tour in Holland march 1995!!

The Gold Experience, imho it's an album rated 10/10 maximum....... worship music

Prince 4Ever. heart

this is probably my favorite Prince album .Too bad it's out of print .I was watching the performance on "Dolphin" on Letterman show recently and liked it a lot .Before Prince performed ,Letterman said "I've been told this album will never be released ,which makes perfect sense Prince is here promoting it tonight "
There's Joy in repetition

..well, when the album dropped, it was a let down for me. No days o wild, extremly weak perfomances on some songs: vocals on shhh are not good, he did it much better in the movie, much more passion. Now sounds so lame on the record, the Out of guitar is not ny cup of tea, (dont think its live-drumming on now or bjb).

Tge has it high points, but he fucked it up with horrible mix. Back in the day it was much better than come but now i say come is the better one.

He should have had same mix like the single of most beautiful girl. Woulb be more enjoyable!

In all fairness... A great album is a great album, a good album is a good album, a bad one a bad one...

TGE has some amazing tracks, argueablly some of Prince's best individual tracks since the last 20 years...

Over all, the production is over bearing, sounds out dated when you listen to it today, doesn't hold up well for the times like his other classic albums...

Over all the album in my opinion is over rated by fans, a really good album for the time period, great album when you compare it to the other albums he's released since then, obviously I'll say it's the most consitant...

But in my opinion still way way way over rated by this site. I remember the reason I had to buy the Gold Experience back on ebay in 2004 was because of how much hype this album got on this site compared to the other Prince sites at the time...

I think you have the wrong thread, this is the love 4 Gold, not the hate one.

Please repost appropriately, because lovers gonna love and haters got 2 hate.

The album speaks for itself, I know, that could be said of any album, but I'm tired of being talked down to for appreciating/enjoying his work. For what it's worth, in my opinion: solid album.

I feel like the weakest song is one of my favs, P Control, front and center... And it only gets better from there...
