All good art is stolen. The great artists get away with it.

THERE IT IS. Exactly. If you can't take something learn from it and use its premise and/or ideas and create something uniquely your own - you suck. Period.

Everyone is influenced, but the greats are great because they transcend influence and kick it to another level.

Prince could sue hundreds of artists. But then he would in turn be sued by hundreds of older artists' estates for him ripping them off. Each would cancel each other out lol.

Yeah--this is such a stupid decision.

.

I know Williams and Thicke brought it on themselves with the whole pre-emptive suit against the Gayes, but I really think this was dumb. I half way expect them to go against anyone who has a loose "party in the room" feel to a track next.

.

Nashville's only turned out about 10 songs in its history by this standard.

I have posted my own covers of Prince's songs on Youtube and Soundcloud. I got hundreds, even thousands, of plays for nearly each song cover.

The thing is, Prince's PR team see the song covers, contact the media websites and order them to be taken down. Once I was given a warning after a song was taken down that if I upload Prince covers again, I'll be taken to court. And I don't even live in Australia.

I love Prince but sometimes he's out of touch with reality.
