You can tell he was trying for the "Sign O' the Times" vibe. But he just looks like Linda Richman.

This was "during" the 1999 era as Delirious had not been released as a single as of yet and the Triple Threat tour was still in full swing with many months to go before its end.

actually those photos concluded the 1999 tour March 15th 1983

with the Minnesota Music Awards (they performed DMSR)

then a full [Triple Threat] concert

then 2 First Avenue where Cloreen Bacon Skin was done

.

by June he was in full swing of for the Purple Rain music

And your are 100% correct Delirious/Horny Toad was released 14 days after the August 3rd 1983 Dance Benefit Show @ First Avenue were the Purple Rain music was featured

Antonio Edge's photo.

On 15th March 1983, Prince returns in triumph to Minneapolis for a concert at 13,500-seat Met Center in Bloomington. A post-show bash was held at the Registry Hotel in Bloomington. At 2:00 am, some members of [Prince]'s band, Vanity 6 and THE TIME played a short jam session with Prince on the drums and Sue Ann Carwell singing.

On 15th May 1983 [Prince] appears at the 3rd annual Minnesota Music Awards at the Charlton Celebrity Room in Bloomington and was finally honored with six awards. He thanked Minneapolis for its support and ended the night with a 10-minute jam of "D.M.S.R." on borrowed equipment with a mix of members of his own band, [Morris Day], [Jesse Johnson] and Vanity 6. Later this night they performed a jam session at First Avenue in Minneapolis with [Jesse Johnson] on drums and Sue Ann Carwell singing the lead vocals.

It was my understanding that the final 1999 tour date was April 10th 1983 in Chicago, IL and that Purple Rain was not primarily recorded until the August, 1983 through March, 1984 timeframe. That is how I determined my "during" 1999 answer. Is that incorrect? I'm sourcing PrinceVault in regards to my info.

The time after Musicology and up until he started growing the fro out is what confuses me. He wore those suits for so long. I can tell what era most pictures are from if I know the show or event he's at but otherwise it all kind of blends together.

Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

what 'transitional' period is this?

I've vocalized my dislike of certain Parade era styles before, but this is great. What I didn't like was when it was TOO short and COMPLETELY slicked back... he looked weird and a little geeky-looking.. But when it grew to this pic's length/Anotherloverholenyohead video/ etc... it looked fantastic.

I thought this one was pretty cool

I'm sorry I type the wrong month

It was May 15th (I corrected it)

Those 6 main songs were recorded in August live

The PR music we have rehearsal(boots) starting in early June. I have no doubt the writing and such might have started before.

sometimes I feel as if it's the lack of color in those pictures that's kind of off-putting. Not sure though.. but I do like that pic of Prince in the gold suit in front of the mirror with this exact hairstyle, so maybe it is the lack of color.

I wish the Minnie Awards were circulating. They'd add even more life to the 1999 era

also, is this Vanity or Brenda in the front? I can't tell.
