What celebrities have disrespected Prince and where are they now?

I remember Boy George calling him a smurf covered in pubic hair back in the 80s. He has gone on to embarrass himself and ruin his career a few times since - along with being a junkie.

Justin Timberlake accepted some award on his behalf and stooped down at teh mic to mimic Prince's height. I really didn't like that because he hadn't been alive long enough to clown a legend.

Timberlame also dissed Prince on a song, after Prince said "Bringing sexy back? Sexy never left", Justin replied and said "Don't hate because you didn't come up with it". Which was a lame reply, considering the original Sexyback song is utter musical garbage, and Prince's reply was witty.

Anyway, I am not sure about other people disrespecting Prince, but the fact is, if they did, they would just been seen as bitter for not having the level of talent that he does.

I do remember that Trent Reznor had said something negative about Prince, they were due to work on something together circa 1994 or so and he said that Prince walked by him and ignored him, and he was upset about that. But he's also a fan - there's at least two tracks on Pretty Hate Machine that contain Prince samples.

I may be mistaken, but didn't some rapper (Jay-z?) disrespect him for being effeminate, citing the song "if I was your girlfriend." It was in some YouTube video I watched a long time ago.
I also read a long time ago about Kanye disrespecting P's band - don't know if that's the same as disrespecting P.
There's also the notorious altercation between Sinead and P.

I meant a video of an interview, not a music video.

Well Prince dissed alot of people is his day to so you can't get mad for other people taking shots at him. Its entertainment and thats what they do. I don't know why people are so sensitive. I thought it was awesome when JT did that.

Most famous to me was Rick James, lines along the lines of ( I may not quote them perfectly word for word, so please don't get all pedantic on my ass).

"That little science fiction creep doesn't even want to be black, its my job to keep reality over him", "i felt sorry for the guy, running around the stage in little girls knickers singing about incest, my audiences murdered him" - In fact he won them over and Rick got Jealous.

.

Bob Marley in 1979 met Prince, when his manager Don Taylor had Prince for a few months - Prince showed up in his bikini briefs and Bob said "He a chi chi baggy man" - Jamaican slang for a homosexual or a transvestite. Jamaica is known as one of the most homophobic places on earth outside of Islam, where gayness is punished by jail and death, many gay tourists are murdered by local men. Buju Banton also talked about murdering gays in a 1992 song and Shabba Ranks also denounced it on a TV show in 1994 which sunk his career. In fact Prince was not gay, just effeminate and in the hyper masculine society of the Jamaican black, this is tantamount to being gay.

.

Someone else said in the 1980s, either Boy George or Kylie Minogue, said Prince looked like a Hispanic Runt dipped in pubic hair and someone else said he was a toothpick wrapped in a purple doily.

.

Laura Winslow also said on the debut 1989 episode of Family Matters that Prince was the one who wore Purple Underwear, I wonder if that counted as a diss.

.

Will Smith on Fresh Prince of Bel Air criticised Carlton in a photography assignment that was due started taking auto shots of his face and started posing and primping for the camera. Will said "Yo Carlton this is a photography assignment, not a Prince video"

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Madonna said famously:

"[He] was a little troll," she said during a 1994 interview, recalling one of their earlier dates. "He was just sipping tea, very daintily. I have this theory about people who don't eat. They annoy me."

Someone is getting ready to throw a dinner knife lol

I know Howard Stern, Elton John and Axl Rose/Slash have all said derogatory things to one degree or another and they're all still fairly relevant. Who was the NBA player that sued him for fucking up his apartment a few years back?

Someone on the Org (a few years ago) said that George Benson (jazz guitarist) dissed him. That surprised me because they were cool with one another in the late 90's.

Doubt that about Jay-Z since they quote "If I Was your Girlfriend" in Jay-z's duet with Beyonce from way back.

Elton must have been a long time ago if he did, because he joined Prince on stage in London in 2007 and they duetted on "The Long and Winding Road" by The Beatles.

Howard Stern is a fan. When Prince did the "Watchtower/Best Of You" mashup for the Superbowl, it was premiered on Howard's show first.

I'm a huge Guns fan and I don't recall Axl or Slash ever badmouthing Prince.

Duff was hardcore Prince fan, credited him often in early interviews.

Slash said something about meeting Prince backstage at the MTV Video Awards...or wanting to meet him, but Prince was his uppity self and "dissed" Slash and Axl. Slash said something like, "Oh well...he lloked like a fag anyway" or something along those lines. I dont remember exactly, but i read something about that a few years ago.

Make it so, Number One...

I think a lot of these people are fans. Boy George making bitchy comments is part of his whole persona. If you read his autobiography there are a number of Prince references and it reads like he craved prince's approval somehow - iirc, it was about 20 years ago I read it. I think there was something about him being thrilled when he met Vanity and she told him Prince thought Karma Chamaeleon was a 'bad tune' or something along those lines.

I have read Keith Richards having pops at Prince a few times. It seems Jagger was a fan and Richards wasn't. I seem to remember him coming round at the RRHOF performance. Funnily enough I think both Richards and Boy George have a go at each other in their autobios, some incident on a Caribbean island.

I thought the only comments Elton John made regarding
Prince was about releasing too much music. Elton John
felt Prince should edit his music a lttle more.

Yea the Elton diss stuff, if it exists, is way over balanced with his praise. Elton is the Prince London Concert movie goes on screen and says something to the effect of "as a live performer Prince blows everyone out of the water - we have always loved his music in Britain and he keeps getting better and better" - or something to that effect. I have it on video.

Also I heard him on the radio one time and they asked him why he has never done a Super Bowl halftime show and he said something to the effect of "because there has never been a good Super Bowl halftime show - well except Prince". I think Elton is actually a fan - which says a lot because Elton bitches about almost everyone smile

Never mind, found it:

"The legendary guitarist doesn't hold back, especially when it comes to his fellow musicians. Prince? "An overrated midget." Elton John is "an old bitch," John Lennon a "silly sod," and of Bruce Springsteen he writes, "if there was anything better around, he'd still be working the bars of New Jersey."

Surprised to hear he didn't like these guys, as I like all of them incl. Keith! Maybe not Elton John so much, but the others all are on the same level with me: Prince, Bruce, Keith and Lennon.

Didn't Prince give an interview stating he once watched Elton John singing a song he had wrote for Mayte as he sat with Mayte? He also said life was good or something to that effect. I think he's a fan too.

Let's not confuse constructive criticism of Prince with dissing him. Elton John's comment about Prince needing an editor was far from a diss. In fact, if you read comments on the Org about Emancipation and Crystal Ball, lots of his fans have expressed the same sentiment (e.g., "There's two CDs worth of really good songs these albums. The rest is filler.") Even Little Richard said Prince would be more appreciated if he held back and put out less product.

Elton's comment is similar to comments made by Bono and George Michael as well (supposedly).

But I'm glad he didn't edit. Because some songs hated by the org end up being songs I like. So if he wants to release 3 LPs a year, I'm goodwitit.

I've heard Elton praise Prince. Howard Stern has a notoriously love-hate relationship with Prince The Man, but he likes the music. I'm pretty sure Axl and Prince jammed together before (or I've read something positive about P from him)

I've also read that the reason Prince ignored Slash was because he was super high/drunk and acting like an idiot. IDK. But they supposedly jammed later on together so I'm betting both moved on. "He looked like a fag that night" LOL
