Benthom

I'd really appreciate it if you guys could fill out my survey on Art Official Age, it's for my college work. It's focused on the marketing of the album, so it seems to fit this thread nicely, thanks https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RVPW5MF

Warner/ Dr F. news:

MUSIC NEWS: NEW SINGLE FR...ITES RADIO

Last December Rolling Stone Magazine named "THIS COULD BE US" one of the "50 Best Songs of 2014" and declared Prince's latest single, "a sparkling sexy jam".
And now radio stations across the country are following suit as the latest single from his #1 album, ART OFFICIAL AGE, becomes the #1 most added new song on Urban Adult radio.
With plays on stations from Augusta, Georgia and Little Rock, Arkansas to Atlantic City, New Jersey and Chattanooga, Tennessee to Washington, DC and New York City, "THIS COULD BE US," returns Prince to a familiar place on radio.
"THIS COULD BE US" is Prince at his best with his signature falsetto on full display and his songwriting teasingly sexy and playful.
Following the release of two #1 albums last fall (ART OFFICIAL AGE #1 R&B and PLECTRUMELECTRUM #1 Rock with his band 3RDEYEGIRL), Prince delivered a history-making performance on Saturday Night Live with an eight-minute plus jam session. Recently the icon presented the Best Original Song category at The Golden Globes to thunderous applause from the audience.

[Edited 1/26/15 2:11am]

It was barely released to radio last week & has gained spins this FAST! It will beat D'angelo's "Really Love" to number one shortly. Then prince's number one album "ArtOfficialAge" will be headed 4 half a million by spring.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

It was barely released to radio last week & has gained spins this FAST! It will beat D'angelo's "Really Love" to number one shortly. Then prince's number one album "ArtOfficialAge" will be headed 4 half a million by spring.

I'm glad that "This Could Be Us" is gaining traction at radio, but why does everything come back to D'angelo. It's as if people want to make them out to be adversaries.

Funny that there are two songs called "Call My Name" on the list at the same time. Wonder how often that happens? One is written by Prince and one by somebody else.

It's a healthy adversary. Eye like that both are out at the same time. It's just 4 fun on my end. Eye'm a fan of both. It's obvious D is a huge prince fan. He I'm sure is turning flips @ prince being on the charts @ the same time as his hero.. biggrin biggrin

I dont listen to the radio so I havent heard her there before, but I just checked her out on youtube and DAAAMN she sings the hell out of that song. The lyrics take on a different feel when a woman sings it.

Change it one more time..

U KNOW gained more attention on the urban AC Charts months ago (which is a sub chart of the already subchart rnb chart eek ), and still it didn't make the weekly charts, only daily charts. So, chances for THIS COULD BE US are weak to make the weekly charts. U KNOW was at about 100 spins a day, and then vanished all of a sudden.

Funny, at that time CALL MY NAME was already stuck in the #14/15 rank. This track has strong longevity, it already spent 27 weeks on the real rnb charts in 2004.

The WB statement is a lot of noise about nothing, we will talk about it when it will make at least the real rnb charts.

By the way, AOA is not on the rnb charts anymore. It surely didn't pass the 100 k mark yet in the USA.

If Prince was a smart guy, he would perform this horrible song on the next grammy. But we all know this won't happen.

It's a good song from a great album. I personally could care less about radio play or charts, but I hope it gets some attention as the album deserves to be heard.

Oh God, what a horrible list. Just reading it is depressing enough, let alone if I had to actually listen to it. The only good song on the entire list is "Uptown Funk". Why an established artist like Prince would want to be a part of this list is beyond me unless maybe to try to make a difference and change the list for the better. But if that's the case, "The Gold Standard" would have been sent to radio instead. Prince is just adding to the snoozefest rather than trying to make it better.

why so negative? cant appreciate anything can you?

horrible song? go check the reviews by non turds on the youtube link of the song

In the contrary, I appreciate a lot of things. Don't appreciating a crap like THIS COULD BE US, and recalling the absurdity of the Urban AC Charts which is a sub-sub charts where he can't even rank a single during a plain week, doesn't make me a negative man. Maybe just realistic ?

I don't care about the reviews. Seriously Rolling Stone called it one of the 50 best songs of 2014 ? Then, I don't want to hear the 49 others, for god's sake.

Like Vainandi said, GOLD STANDART would have been a smarter choice. Maybe they don't want to hire a guy to make a radio edit version of the song.

you clearly dont know much about radio, once a song hits a certain position on the urban ac chart, the urban stations will automatically pick it up. the Gold Standard is not a radio song, urban ac isnt a sub sub chart, its a different format. i think i'm done debating with you, not an even fight.

Why is it not a radio song? I don't hear any cussing in the song. Is it because it's an actual uptempo funk jam which wouldn't fit in with the format of the snoozefest that they play all day? Well, the urban adult contemporary station in my area plays lots of uptempo funk jams during the Lunchtime Oldies hour and on weekends when they play all oldies. They even slip in an old funk jam every now and then periodically throughout a normal day. So why not give them an actual new funk jam since apparently some people listening to the station still like funk? And as for length, hell, I've heard "Lady Cab Driver", "Automatic", "DMSR", and the 12 Inch version of "Let's Work" played in their entirety numerous times so once again, why is "The Gold Standard" not a radio song?

.

Hell, somebody needs to give the stations some new funk to try to change things and get the mainstream in general out of dull slump it's been in for 20 years. Giving them something that fits in with the majority of what they're playing contributes more to the problem rather than trying to correct it.

I'm sorry, URBAN AC CHARTS is a sub-sub chart. Just take a look at the spins, the audience...THIS COULD BE US will have a minimum of impact when it (if it ever does) cracks the top 40 rnb chart.

U KNOW get about 100 spins/ a day during a whole week, and then vanished. It never made the weekly UAC charts.

TCBU is currently at # 30 (+5) for the 27 th january. I hope it will get higher and higher, but without music video and promotion by Prince, it's a domm-fated single.

Why GOLD STANDART is not a radio song and why TCBU is one ?

Funny that there are two songs called "Call My Name" on the list at the same time. Wonder how often that happens? One is written by Prince and one by somebody else.

Creep was a hit by 3 acts at roughly the same time. And all 3 songs were different songs: TLC, Stone Temple Pilots, and Radiohead. I'm too lazy to see just how close the releases were, but it was likely all in a 16 month period or maybe much closer. And the Prince connection? Two of them at least: TLC had covered IIWYG on the same album, and Prince later covered Radiohead's Creep. Creepy.

-- Good Lord !!! It is a RnB A/C Tune being played on RnB A/C stations which is were it is suposed to be. AOA is not a pop recording and none of the songs will get play or Pop stations you are the only one who seems unable to grasp this concept. I know that AOA hung aroung in the Top Twenty of the RnB chart for over 5 months with not one song getting Radio Ariplay it was bound to fall out with no promotion but hanging on for 5 months was a good run. With the single getting play the CD may move back up the chart.

As I have said before, I have no idea who the target audience is for this album. There is no single. Nothing on it could ever be a hit on it. The ONLY possible single is Anotherlove from the Plectrum album. Everything else is radio repulsive.

------ You do not listen to RnB radio do you ? The music on AOA is a million times better than the crap on RnB radio these days and it actully fits the A/C rnb stations and the more uptempo stations. I love all the experts on black music on this board who know nothing about black music or do not care for it in the first place.

I completely understood the concept of charts and sales, thank you. IIRC, you were the one who didn't understand that AOA never went to #1, and that it only charted one week on the top 20, and not even two months on the top 200.

RNB AC audience is considerably smaller than the actual rnb charts. Almost every tracks on AOA could be played on rnb radio stations and becoming a hit, if Prince played the game. Even WAY BACK HOME could be played on pop stations.

Strikes me in an odd way, some of Prince's peers/competitors on this chart: Johnny Gill, Trey Songz, D'Angelo, Joe, Charlie, Bruno, Case, Boyz II Men, Sisqo... I'm not sayin' AC R&B is a has-been haven but...
