I prefer the AOA version. Nobody but die-hard fans will care who the producer is. I never listened to Thriller thinking "man Quincy Jones is great".

Not that this is an answer, but towards the end of the song I believe it's Josh who says 'Ouch' which could mean that was his little signature there, I dunno. Other people have also said that it may be Josh is AOC saying 'We need you to tell us what you know' then Prince replies in a mocking tone

I think Josh had some influences for sure, but while some really hate on 20ten here, I hear 20ten throughout AOA, especially in AOC, Clouds, Uknow, FUnknROll, to me it's almost a continuation of the 'dirty new sound' he's singing in Laydown. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what my ears tell me. Did Prince & Josh know each other back then, had they been working together?

Serious and stupid question - the version of FNR on AOA is different than the one on PLE?

I just thought it was a case of Prince being Prince and deciding to have the track on both cuz he can can, well, he's Prince and would probably do something like that, lol.

So, I deleted it from PLE cuz I thought it was the same as on AOA.

What's the difference/s between the two????

Most of the instrumental parts from the original have been left out, cut into shorter segments or appropriated in a rather minimal manner by Welton using synths / drum machines / computer software.

There's no official confirmation on the track's nature, but Welton did call it a Joshuaworld remix in his Twitter feed before the album was released. The synth and drum sounds used for the track are pretty much the same as what he's used for all the other stuff he's done for Prince and whatever stuff of his own he's put out in the public before.

Oh yeah, and I don't like it at all myself and it sounds just weird on the album, but that wasn't the question.

Heard the AOA version first, but after PE version it became definitive. The home stretch of the AOA version causes whiplash and kicks major butt.

WHERE IS THE EXTENDED VERSION!?

I'm not answering your question, but since so many people are providing which song they like more, here's my once cent worth. I never really liked "Funknroll" at all until the Arsenio Hal Show version, and that gave me only a slight appreciation of the song. Oddly, not only to I love the AoA version, but it actually allowed me to see the beauty of the PlecElec or original version, which is odd for me because I generally hate the concept of "remixing." For my money, if you do it right the first time, you don't need a remix. Yet, I also like the original version of "RocknRoll Love Affair" and the remix equally because they sound so different, being a different experience, which is true, for me, with the versions of AoA. And, I don't think I'll be bummed if I discover that the AoA version is all Josh because two of my favorite Prince songs are "Party Up," which was co-written by Morris Day, and "Colonized Mind," which is a rip-off of "Quit It," but the haunting guitar playing is phenomenal.

He should've just listed it as (Bonus track, remix) etc.

PE version: i think the beginning is a bit abrupt with that wierd voice "ear-iiiit" ? then that boring droning riff.i like the main song though, just dislike the beginning and the "riff intro/interludes". I love the fade ending though when you get to hear a bit of Prince vamping in a more demo-ish version.

I think Prince must have had something to do with the AOA Version. There are some synths in there that sound like a direct nod to "Get Loose". It could be of course it could just be Josh showing he knows Prince's music history.

It's too bad the AOA version takes so long to get going and once it does.. it ends about a minute later.
