People complaining, bitching are in the majority...

Fact is when AOA came out people here on the org in their majority liked the album and most, not all, critics were positive...

And now it is nice that the album gets mentioned in the best albums of 2014 lists...

Maybe it will get a grammy nomination...

Hmm... and what has the mareting budget been like? Because the records seems heavily promoted. Billboards, product placement, sale prices, etc. The fact that is has no airplay, is actually an indictment against the record, given the promotion and totally not paid for or unbiased good reviews.

Hey Prince needs his purple kool-aid drinking fans as much as the next act, so do your thing. But I'd rather he actually earn my enthusiasm. I won't make excuses for him when he deliberately puts out bs music.

What surprises me is that they put the album at # 34 and everybody here acts as if it is the album of the year! I expected Prince fans to disagree because it should be higher in the list. Rolling Stone lists always make no sense. I remember seeing their list of 100 greatest guitarists a few years back and some of the people were just laughable - I think Kurt Cobain and Johnny Ramone were in the top 10. Influential musicians? Yes. Greatest guitarists? A kid picking up the guitar for the first time could play better than them

Heavily promoted? There were some billboards for a week or so. Product placement I haven't seen any. WB clearly never offered any video budget. "Moderately promoted" is about as far as I think you could go there.

As for the album itself, his songwriting is strong, there is a good mix of styles, it sounds contemporary the "concept" sounds like a bit of an afterthought, it doesn't really add anything but it doesn't really detract either and only really runs through 3 tracks.

Rolling Stone hasn't been relavant in decades. This list was filled with artists who have seen better days like U2, Bruce, Jackson Browne and, yes, Prince (BTW I really like Art Official Age). Or artists who I have never heard of (which doesn't really mean they are bad, I just don't know a lot of them). Plus Taylor Swift is ranked #10. Really? Taylor Swift?

The production is one of the best things about the record.

Ugg, it's corny and amatuerish c'mon let's be real here. I just listened to it again to refresh myself before I posted again and boy is it really really really bad. Cringeworthy.

The production I would say is the absolute worst part of this album. And I am not talking about turning knobs to the appropriate levels, but the "art" of production, you know having experiance, taste and talent. The kinds of stuff people like Quincy Jones won awards for. What artist today would allow this type pf production an their album? Sounding old fashioned is the least of it's problems. That would be charming. Sounding this corny is never a good thing.
