There's plenty of official information & legend rgearding Prince's unreleased recordings, especially as more songs have been gradually leaked to the general public in recent years.

What I'm wondering is this:

When the LP editions were originally pressed, was any record kept regarding how many copies of each album were pressed up?

Normally for official independent label vinyl releases, it tended to be in the range of as low as 400 copies and up to 3,000 copies; sometimes 5,000 copies of a single album. The more copies that gets pressed, the cheaper the cost.

However, unofficial Prince bootlegs weren't necessarily intended to have a large distribution. Back then, there were so many more ways of getting caught and things be traced back to sources. The fines could be hundreds of thousands of dollars, not to mention the possibility of your record pressing plant being shut down. Some independent record stores I frequented, required a secret password & written recommendation rom another regular customer who knew & could vouch for you, in order to access the "bootleg back room". No joke! People were real "hush-hush" about it all.

Anyway, none of the vinyl bootlegs I've owned or saw ever seemed to be numbered editions. All of this had me wondering if there's any documentation of this anywhere. Anyone have any insights and information on how many copies of certain LP pressings were made?
