I doubt he will ever have another hit, too. Everytime I think of the various ways he could have one, I think of all the various things he does that limit his chances. I doubt he's really into making hits anymore.

Sure, a top 40 hit would be nice, but if it mattered that much to them they would have stopped buying the music long ago.

What's this "buying" Prince's new music thing? An endangered species for sure...

Then you must be some rare purple panda for sticking around our endangered selves.

THANK YOU.

Prince is a legend in music with a 36+ year career, multiple critically acclaimed albums with an eclectic mix of music and revolutionary sonicality (is that even a word?). He has multiple Top 40 hits to his name and he made those hits when music was a hell of a lot better and having charting songs were a hell of a lot harder and has etched his name in the annals of time as a figurehead in the art of music. He's done all this yet for some strange reason, that's not good enough for some of the people on here.

"He's Prince! He's perfect! He's God! And there's no way He shouldn't have the #1 song until the end of time despite his peak of commercial success being in the 1980s!"

Seriously, get over it people. Prince had his time and has long since left his mark on music. Are you seriously going to hold a petty grudge because he isn't scoring chart hits in 2014 when any sort of noise can shoot straight to #1? It's not outside the realm of possibility for Prince to have a chart hit in this day and age but why hold your breath for such an unlikely occurrence? If you're ao pressed about hits just listen Purple Rain and cal it a day, no need to hurt yourself.

Prince has been in the industry for over 36 years.

His albums have sold over 100 million copies world wide.

Purple Rain

Batman

1999

Diamonds and Pearls

with just those 4 albums alone he's sold over 40 million records, more than most artists sell their whole careers.

He's won numerous MTV VMA awards, AMA's, BMA's, Soul Train, 7 Grammys, Golden Globe, Academy Award, etc...

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

He's had over 30 top 40 singles and he's had 17 Top 10 albums as well as 4 #1 albums...

He's still making music releasing two albums in 2014 and placing in the Top 10 after 36 years... Give him is props, he doesn't need another TOP 40 radio hit. All the "TOP 40" songs on the radio are garbage anyway.

I know y'all are cray about him making hits. But Cannibal Corpse has a higher chance of getting a hit at this point. The dude has over 20 top 40 hits. It's fine if he never has anothe big one again. And he won't... EVER!!!

I'm here for y'all if you need therapy. And don't forget to say something nice about Tony M.

I just wish Prince would release more music via download. Screw the physical cd's and labels/radio. just release more music directly to the fans from his website. We don't need any more cd's

Months ago,I said that the only way Prince could possibly have a big hit today is if it was produced by Pharrell and featured a guest rapper on it (I suggested Jay Z.)

Let's be honest....that's the only way that US radio would fully embrace a new Prince single.

nod

This being said (for those who still live in the 20th century) John Zorn releases an album on CD about every 2 months and sales are sufficient to make the whole thing profitable, and I doubt John Zorn's fanbase is half Prince's.

It is unlikely Prince will have another bonafide hit again. Pop music is a game for mostly young artists who have a song with a good hook or gimmick to catch the attention of the general public. Usually they are good looking, have visually appealing video's and are backed by a corporate marketing machine. The lyrics in these songs are usually about sex or feature universal appealing emotions. The production of these songs are catchy and comtemporary.

Prince is old, his songs don't have good hooks nor gimmicks, he doesn't do video's a lot anymore and if he does they are often not very appealing, his lyrics are often bad and/or preachy and not what kids want to hear, and his production until AOA was not very contemporary sounding. Eventhough now he is backed by a major player again (WB) his new singles don't get the "big push" needed to get a Top 40 hit. So I believe his hitmaking days are over most likely. Not that I care personally though...

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

by this logic.. neither will Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, etc...

and who cares..

As longs as Bowie is releasing albums as great as "The Next Day" and Prince releasing albums as great as "Art Official Age" and "Plectrum Electrum" i could literally care less if he has another "hit"

the mans got 30 years worth of hits...

Prince's last classic single was TMBGITW

Prince's last single with hit potential was Black Sweat

Ageism was THE only reason why Black Sweat wasn't a Top 10 hit as well as why the 3121 album didn't sell as much as it should have. It was around that time when Prince and Justin Timberlake had their little public disses at each other, hence fueling a potentially fun rivalry between two artists from different generations. But the industry downright didn't want to hype "the old lion" Prince the same way they were hyping "the current young lion" Justin (ironically one of many so-called "next Michael Jackson" at the time).

At the end of the day, Prince didn't mess anything up. The industry screwed it up.

I disagree only with your last sentence. I want Prince to release his music on CDs. But instead of albums, Prince could just do a EP releases with 4 to 6 new songs each.

What if THE only way Prince could have a hit single on corporate-owned radio station is by joining Jay-Z's Roc Nation?!? omg

Think about it. More than a year ago, I was one of the few orgers that were disappointed in deep sadness that Kylie Minogue sold-out by joining Roc Nation. Can you imagine the uproar if Prince is force to sellout and do the same? disbelief
