Yeah.. I don't tend to listen too closely or analyze his lyrics (I don't do that as a rule with most musicians unless its a Leonard Cohen or Nick Cave or PJ Harvey or someone who always have very interesting lyrics) so as not to have too many WTF moments and just enjoy the melody or rhythm without distraction.

i just dont understand how he still has this insanely strict religious side but then can still have themes like "free the people" in his songs.. it just seems hypocritical to me... and yes I said insanely strict.

These latest albums still lean heavily on his familiar theme, envoking the names of David & Saul in the track "Time", but David's book of prayer "Psalms" is anything but a message a self, or that "everything is u". As a matter of fact, "Psalms" is a book of man's total deprivation and reliance on God. God is everything. I guess it can all be dismissed because, hey, he is Prince. But for an artist who has become more and more vocal about sharing his faith, I would think he would pick a message that someone could actually following along with and not just tap their foot to the music.

Or, God forbid (pun intended) people can respond individually and follow their own path...

Even at what some would consider his most fevered as a Jehovah's Witness (TRC) there was still a load of new age, conspiracy theory, Eastern-influenced gobbledegook mixed in. Prince's frame of reference is Christian, I guess because of his background - but it's all a melting pot of ideas. I think he recognises that mix whilst still trying to stay respectful to his Christian upbringing by framing his beliefs overall within Christian mythology, but still widening his lexicon to include other influences at the same time.

This third eye stuff is not of Jehovah nor Scientology.

I don't think he was ever really a JW. Astrology is incompatible with any bible-based theology and they would also frown on the idea of Akashic records as being satanic.

He's just a mix of the typical fantasy superstitious horseshit that seriously plagued folks especially from the psuedo-spiritual 1970s, but of course that crap has been around forever and it still is today.

Just not as candles and afros as it was backinthaday.
