I don't think the average fan expected much, but somehow Prince managed to give us even less. They should have done a pre-recorded special so they could have edited the shitty interviews and cut out the intermissions. Quick tour, interviews, previews and then one song from each album and one of his oldies to close the show. 25-30 mins max. It's really not that hard, but the man's head is too far up his own ass and thinks everything he does is of "the gold standard".

.

I'm actually glad it didn't devolve into a greatest hits fest.

.

It did make me wonder at the end though. Why it cut off... I mean it's a live stream, it's unlikely they ran out of HD space, and I can't imagine Yahoo worrying about their bandwidth. It could have just kept rolling surely?

Prince probably didn't think they paid him enough for a full show.

This wasn't great. At all. Saying "he didn't have to do this" is ridiculous. He's not running a charity. He did a livestream album release party on a major platform, and it sucked ass. Even the clueless host said it was a "once in a lifetime opportunity." Why not make something useful out of it? Have an informed host? An interesting tour? Fewer than 60+ minutes of people standing around awkwardly? Less time spent scanning an empty stage? More songs from the albums played live? Some actual discussion and promotion of the albums? Yes, it was cool to hear snippets of unreleased songs. And I'm glad we got to see Josh at work because he seems cool and people here are really harsh on him. But Prince and company could have done so much more with this event. It was really pathetic. [Edited 10/1/14 3:45am] [Edited 10/1/14 3:45am]

I didn't mind the part with Joshua either, but the 3rdeyegirl interview sucked. They looked really nervous.

It was the audience's lack of energy. I totally called it would be a short concert during the performance of the first song (in this thread) and it was. I said if that audience continues to be so dry, Prince would end the show abruptly, and that's exactly what happened.

well i just watched it. And i really enjoyed it. IT had a layed back feel about it which i liked. The host was fun and lets face it , good on the eye! Some of the comments I have read on here, the negative ones , are way over the top. There was some good stuff on there like the news songs played. The look around the studios was interesting to me , coming from the uk i will never get to look round them. Prince did mention has wasnt going to perform but changed his mind, maybe thats why it looked a little un rehearsed, but it wasnt that bad a performance. Overall i liked it

You can't make people feel something they don't, can't blame the audience.

I thought the first unreleased song with 3EG sounded very Bob Dylan -esque in terms of Prince's vocals.

So, we got to see a live performance, the full video of the Plectrum Electrum recording, several unreleased tracks, a couple of songs with NPGQ (which I hand't really heard much about), an interview with the Lovely Liv Warfield, a walk arounf Paisley Park and some insight about how the albums were recorded and how our man works. And that was shit because...?

I don't quite understand the people in here. It might have been a good idea to record it and edit it in advance, but it was cool to see thie live. And what made the host annoying? I really don't get it!!!

totally agree. I just watched it myself and enjoyed it. I enjoyed the host Maya, its the first Ive heard or seen of her but she did the job pretty well for this to be in Prince's world, which is generally extremely spontaneous.

Change it one more time..

Hearing "X's Face" was worth it for me. My gawd that was some gritty funk. And I can tell Joshua has a very distinctive production style when comparing that Rita Ora track to AOA's tracks. Me likey. Prince needs to hang on to that young talent, Josh. "Revelation" was sah-weeet, too. I'm already super excited for the NEXT album!

The Paisley Park tour was very cool. But I'm gonna keep my comments about the LIVE EVENT CONCERT to myself. What a wasted PR opportunity for AOA/PE. Oops...I commented...

Pretty good sounding lyrics from what I can remember. This thing isn't available "on demand" is it? They just loop the show?

I hate to say this but I need to join the chorus of negative critics.

I can't even think of any pros except for maybe the band playing What's My Name and Thoughtful and Thankful. The previews of the new songs were also pretty cool. I liked what I heard and I look forward to hopefully hearing them in full one day. I would understand if something was wrong like someone was sick and they didn't bring their A-game cuz of it but this might have been the worst Prince performance I've ever sat thru.

The host, although lovely, had very thin and basic knowledge of Prince and his history. We heard no facts about Paisley Park and she said "3rdeyegirl!" when she saw the Diamonds and Pearls cover on the wall. She said 'Batman' three times. Not that she had to know a lot of Prince knowledge cuz most of us already know so much about Prince but it would have been nice to hear something new or interesting. We all know about Prince's work ethic, we don't need to hear it again. The clothes part was too tedious. The ladies of 3rdeyegirl are so lovely (Donna - she's so gorgeous) but all that seemed so cheap and trivial. The jazz band, ok cool, but that put a real damper on things.

Lots has already been said today so I don't need to rehash anything else. Last night was a shame considering that both new albums are really good in my view. An amazing oppurtunity was squandered. I also get the "organic" thing - like just let the photographer be th ehost and all that but it pays to have a person who is a genuine host of such an even.

Prince, please stop with the studio phonecalls and "I can see you in the camera" schtick. It's so oddball and not fuuny, cute or genius. It's creepy.

Agreed. If this was a loose concept for a TV show... I don't know if there is an American version of Later... with Jools Holland, but "Paisley Park, After Dark" would be cool. Prince may be better asking people questions as opposed to answering them.

Yes it seems to be constantly looping 'as live', not able to skip / fast forward.

The new songs sounded good. I need 'Revelation' and that acoustic number now.

Prince however, seemed a little subdued and the event disorganised/free-form. This was particularly noticeable in the interlude during the live performance when 'Poom Poom' and 'Time' were both played from the PA, then cut.

The new songs are right at the start - which is helpful - and well worth checking out. Seems Prince is working on some very good new material and might have a new album ready (according to Josh).

The best part was to see the whole video for Plectrum Electrum. Prince should release that in top quality, free as promo for the album, or he could offer it for a few bucks on the 3rdeyegirl website.

Wow... very Org!

From the onset, I expected anything from the records streaming live with 10 minutes of interviews and 10 minutes of performance to pretty much what happened.

What I did not expect: him coming right out performing several songs from the album. That would have been cool, but Prince has given a few signs of his reluctance by sending 3EG to GMA and not appearing in Breakfast Can Wait -- so it's hard not to notice that he's not self-promoting himself like a new star would.

Passive agressivity, leaving the spotlight to 3EG, letting other people be in front of the camera... all that points to intentional avoidance of standard self-promotion. Throwing out the promotional manual is nothing new for Prince, but he's getting pointedly minimalist.

It's like he's sending a message: "If you think signing back with Warners changed me, think again."

I'm not hatin' on her, but she was just kind of all over the place. It was funny. She gets an A for effort and an A+ for spunkiness, though.
