Musicology, 3121, and Lotusflow3r are all pretty enjoyable albums. Musicology is one I find myself going back to the most. It's aged surprisingly well. Prince albums that I listen to somewhat regularly are Controversy, 1999, SotT, Lovesexy, D&P, The B-Sides, The Gold Experience, The Vault, and Musicology.

Adorecream

Decided to work out some average scores from the answers so far. Have managed to get 39 sets of scores from the thread so far.

.

Have assumed that ONA live is the main 2cd set and ONA is the Piano album (Apologies if wrong) and people who have given 2 or 3 scores for parts of the same thing I have averaged them out of 10 (Such as 2 and 7 for recent material I gave a 4.5). My own 100 point scores have been converted to decimal points (eg: 72 = 7.2). I could not rate emoticons symbols though (I mean what is flogging a dead horse out of 10 worth?)

.

1st for the main 7 albums we get the following results

.

Best - Lotusflow3r - 7.34/10, 39 votes, the clear winner here

2nd - 3121 - 6.92/10, 39 votes, another favourite with listeners

3rd - Musicology - 6.41/10 - 39 votes

4th - Planet Earth - 5.74/10 - 39 votes

5th - MPLSound - 5.65/10 - 39 votes

6th - 20Ten - 5.24/10 - 37 Votes - This album did not do very well, a lot of low marks.

7th - Indigo Nights - 4.28/10 - 26 Votes, less votes and very unpopular overall.

.

Overall these main albums did not do that well, none got a single 10 and scores above 7 were rare. Then again scores under 3 are quite rare too.

.

More interesting were random other albums rated. In No order here they are.

.

N.E.W.S 3/10 from 6 votes, this album was fairly poorly received

ONA Live 7.06/10 with 8 votes, generally liked

ONA Piano 6.64/10 and 7 votes quite popular

The Rainbow children 8.60/10 a clear winner in the more than 5 votes category, the dividing album bought out some high ranking supporters. 2 of its 10 votes were 10/10's

Chocolate Invasion 4.88/10 with 3 votes, 2 were very low, a pretty forgettable mark

Xpectation, kept low with an abysmal 2.33/10 from 3 votes

C Note 4 voters gave it an average of average of 4.25 out of 10, 1 other voter said it was not an album.

Slaughterhouse, 7 voters gave it a 4.29/10 mark again labelling it in the fair to flawed category.

Ultimate Prince, a 2006 Greatest hits collection gained a single vote of 10/10, but its one vote only, so you can't really say its the best. Plus all the music on it is 1992 or earlier.

Plectrum Electrum/Art Official Age - 3 voters gave it an average score of 6/10 based on released singles and bootleg mixes of this unreleased so called mastrepiece double album set.

Elixer - 2009 Album by protege Bria Valente that came with the Lotusflow3r/MPLSOUND set, was given 2 marks a 2/10 and a 7/10 by 2 voters.

Finally poor old Superconductor a 2012 album by protege Andy Allo got the gong with a single mark of Negative 0. Poor Andy!!!

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Prince doesn't sing on Elixer, (well , one song) and only co-wrote 3 tracks on Super. There's no way they should be considered Prince albums.

[Edited 8/31/14 2:39am]

eek eek eek

There are vocal George Duke albums (credited to "George Duke") where he doesn't sing a note (guest vocalists do it), are those albums to be dismissed as George Duke albums, too?

Just an example, there are others.

It doesn't matter who sings or what name is written on the cover. The main creative force behind Elixer is prince: he composed, arranged and per4med everything save the lead vocals, he chose the tracklist, he conceived the whole project. It's a prince album, period. It's also a Bria Valente album, but they could (and maybe should) have written "Prince and Bria Valente" on the cover and all of a sudden it'd be a prince album to you lol

This obsession regarding who "sings" really has to stop, a singer is just a per4mer among others and not necessarly the leading creative force behind a project.

As for Superconductor, Andy was definitely the main songwriter here, but prince was all over the place when it comes to arranging and per4ming it, so it's by all means a collaborative effort. Once again, it wouldn't have been an exageration to credit the album to "Andy Allo & Prince" if they had so wished. Similar situation with GCS2000, Larry composed most of it and sang but in the end it was as much a prince album as a Larry Graham album, a very collaborative effort.

Not Prince albums.
