I've been a fan since 1982 (1999). I know there are a lot of gun references in his 36 years of releasing albums.

.

My question was why are there so many NOW? If you consider AOA and PE to be a somewhat joint release (with overlapping players, themes and even an overlapping song) then essentially you have 3 gun references in the same era. And also in 3 of the songs that were released first.

Maybe because there a lot of nutters shooting people in schools and a nine year old girl shoots a instructor with a Uzi in that accident.

That's true. Gun violence and gun control are major themes in American discourse right now. But Prince's recent gun references are juvenile. Think of Pretzlbodylogic, for example. There's no commentary in that reference. We're not talking Annie Christian or Love Sign here. He just tosses out gun references for little apparent reason.

Ok, I found the gun reference in Fixurlifeup a little odd, not typical of Prince but at the same time not advocating or glamorizing guns.

Then another one in Pretzelbodylogic. One that almost tries to use guns for a "cool" factor.

Then, a third reference from the same era (this time from Prince's own song Clouds).

I'm just wondering why there are so many at the same time?

Fixurlifeup:

Lookin’ at the world through the barrel of a gun
Hands behind their back in a parked car

Pretzelbodylogic: Taste the bitter sweet, undone
Now we both too sleepy to get the gun

Clouds:

How do we engage?!
Bullying just for fun,
No wonder there's so many guns
Maybe we're better off in space!

To me it seems he's just reflecting on the violent world in which we live in.

Unless I somehow skipped past it, wouldn't "Count The Days," be the obvious reference here? Or Shy? Both from the same period...but CTD promotes violence, while Shy shees to be showing how foolish it is.

That noise is the sound of an electric guitar being unplugged from an amp with some reverb thrown on it.

It's the guitar equivalent of dropping the mic. It's just like the pop at the end of Damn U where Prince let's the mic on the stand drop and hit his shoulder, (which I believe is even seen along with the sound on the video). Dropping the mic.

No guns. No problem. No people to use the guns. No problem. Which of these can we actually remove from the equation?

Neither. You can never remove guns completely. The folks in power will never give them up because it keeps them in power and those who would use them illegally will find ways to get them. The only guns you can get rid of are the ones possessed by people who obey the law and therefore pose no threat.

What you seem to be suggesting would result in something quite different than what you and your comrades would expect. What would actually happen has a name. It's called tyranny.

The videos with Batman and Eye Wish U heaven contain a gun (that is fired).

I guess Prince is a gunfreak. Every weekend he hangs out with his buddies shooting beercans.

awesome avatar, OnlyNDaUsa, lol!interesting about the gUn references. i've touched a gun once in my life, but i think the gun mic was an interesting idea about music as a weapon. i had meant to ask b4, what does "get the gun" Really mean?

2 me the "boom" at the end of 101 is clearly Sheena blowing her brainz out nod DK though if it was there in the prince version or if she added it.
