I've not watched much American football, but I'm assuming that at the start of a game the teams skip around the perimeter of the field in ballet tutus, aiming to intimidate their opponents with a display of airy effeminateness, right? In that case, it's the perfect musical accompaniment. nod

A local paper in Minn posted an online poll to see if the song was well recieved by the general population.

69% voted 'no', with only 10 percent voting 'yes', and the remainder being indifferent.

Even for what it is, it's not good.

I must confess that I have never heard it, perhaps thankfully given its reputation. There's a lot of these 2000 era weird outliers that I've never actually heard, due to them being only released on the radio, or stuff like The Morning After, which again due to its reputation it doesn't seem like I'm missing out smile Are any of these actually worthy listening to?

I actually prefer the album with The Morning After following Boom, it seems to flow better to me in that configuration and I also like the track. I also really like Crimson & Clover too, so I add that to the end of the albom after Back To The Lotus.

Just listened to it three more times, for it's specific purpose, I love it.

Folks this song is different because it was created as a football team anthem, surely you understand this is not supposed to sound like something he would put on an album. It really seems like a lot of you are judging this like it was meant to be the 5th track on plectrum electrum, in which case, yeah, way out of place, but since it was written and recorded specifically for the vikings football team, pretty cool song. As stated at the vault, "the song is a traditional football fight song", as such imo, it does that theme justice.

peace

PS to answer what some of you may be thinking, the answer is no, Jughead is not my fav track off D&P biggrin

Deep in the bowels of The Hall Of Shame, "Jughead," "Planet Earth" and "Graffiti Bridge" are still writing thank-you notes to "Purple and Gold" to express gratitude for lowering the bar beneath them.

Considering the breadth of songs Prince has under his belt, it's important to remember that there are bound to be big "misses" along the way. Doesn't degrade his much larger pile of winners.

Unpopular opinion: Purple and Gold sucks, but not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It's the Eh, This Kinda Sucks sucky, not the WOW, THIS SUCKS sucky (songs like Fall in Love 2 Night)

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2

LOL I actually really like the song "Planet Earth". "Graffiti Bridge" is not too bad in my book either, but I can definitely understand why people dislike it.

Jughead... I don't mind Prince's rap part, the rest is junk.

Purple & Gold is likely the WORST song I've ever heard by ANY artist. I hurts more because it is Prince. Wow, I really can't believe it is serious.

The Morning After is great by the way.

You need to check out Eeny Meeny Miney Mo Lova by Justin Bieber and Smack Dat by Akon.
