I Wanna Be Your Lover has withstood the test of time? Maybe. Not for me.

At any rate, idiots need to stop believing that popularity has anything to do with quality. Basically what this moron is saying is that if we just took all the number one hits from the last uear and made a mixtape we'd have the best album in the world. Jesus.

This drivel is slightly better than that bag of dicks known as Phillip Phillips, but just barely. Some of the most cliche, written-by-committee lyrics I've ever heard.

My dear child, that garbage was written soley to make money, the emotion is false and designed to get little girls to believe Disney Princess love is real and to hopefully become the song for prom this year. Nothing else. If you believe there is any sincerity in that song, if you believe for a second that his label didn't have him adjust it until it fit the focus group data for the greatest demographic impact then you, my friend, are a teenage girl. I'd guess closer to 7th grade than 12th.

Pure garbage lyrically.

Musically, it's pretty typical of the shit that's floating around the airwaves these days. Not even worthy of analysis.

Good day, young lady.

Listen Shithead a moron and an idiot hardly.I fully understand the falseness and manipulation of pop music. And nonone ever said that every hit was worth its chart position.if anything the opposite is true. But if it was so simple to write a marvelous hook than artists that once were the hooksters would do it for years and so would you instead of pretending to be an intellectual on a fan forum. You in your pretentious musical snobberry probaly think anything played on top 40 radio is empty and contrived. This song is classic pop soul full of the emotions that that entails.

Let's chill out a bit, no need for this to get so heated.

We're fans of Prince, of course we appreciate well written pop songs. However that song is shit, sorry, but it really is.' When I Was Your Man' is an example of a far better song in the same style. Bruno Mars is an exceptional musician, vocalist and songwriter and it shows in his music. Shawn Mendes is a painfully average artist singing a shite song that I bet he didn't write. I've just watched two live performances of it and he is not feeling it AT ALL. Go and watch and see what you think.

Or just lock before people start arguing.

If I were a 14 y/o girl I might find that song interesting. But anyhow.. thanks but no thanks. I couldn't make it past the cheesy chorus.

ANNNNNNDDD WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?? ^^^

I like it, At first I was kinda iffy; but It grows on you.

I think what is most important is the message. I LOVE the message of the song.

It really makes you think about the different lifestyles people are living all around.

elf - I've just wasted 5 mins of my life on this.

No need for folk to get all heated about this - I can resolve it here...... it is shite !! pure pap and nonsense !

To the point, in fact, I can't actually comprehend how someone who believes this to be remotely good (let alone "the epitomy of yearning" - dear Lord !) could possibly be a Prince fan ?!?!? Baffled - I mean, just how .....? what ........? why .......... ?

If you want to hear a song that is the epitamy of what Prince was yearning to capture with the Breakdown than google the lyric video of Shawn Mendes "life of the party".Even though its just a sixteen year old kid who didnt write the song and the song is not in the Prince style this is the type of meloncholy whistful song Prince used to master with songs like Electric Intercourse and Sometimes it snows. Its not really his fault obviously as he stated clarvoyently in 85.Even the most masterful musicians only have so many notes in them.Sigh.Time is merciless.

Listening to it now. Rehashed melody, heard about 157 times in similar Top-10 crappy ballads almost by the note. U can like it it's fine, I love some generic, unoriginal Top 10 songs too every once in a while, but comparing this generic piece of soap to eccentric, unique songs like Electric Intercourse and Sometimes In April??? eek Now THAT's bloody blasphemy.

No offense meant to the 14 y/o tween Prince community wink

Actually now that you mention it, as a 14 y/o kid I would have still found the song to be unlistenable cheesy lame vomit inducing crap. I guess to each their own.

Change it one more time..

I've figured it out. Elf9933 must just fancy Shawn Mendes. Anotherlover4Nessa probably does too. Because if not, why the hell has Shawn f****** Mendes got his very own thread on a PRINCE site!? PRINCE! The iconic genius and we're talking about Shawn Mendes telling tween girls about the importance of self confidence.
