The members of 3RDEYEGIRL (Prince excepted) were there; Barb and I were seated behind Ida at the console, and near Donna, who chatted with us about her native Toronto and the band’s recent European tour. Manning a laptop connected to the console was engineer Joshua Welton (who is also Hannah Ford’s husband), and before the music started there was a flurry of activity, with the studio phone ringing multiple times. Finally, we were ready to begin. Welcoming us to the listening session, Welton said, “I hope you like loud, because it’s gonna get loud, and it’s gonna get classic. This…is Plectrum Electrum.”

.

I repeat what I've said before: this is cheating. Putting people in a controlled environment, surrounding them with band members etc and having Prince monitoring everything, and then playing the album loudly on a super-professional sound system is not asking for opinions, it is sollicitating propaganda.

Would you have preferred Prince to have backed a Chevy Cobalt into the Park, rolled down the windows, and then said, "Hey y'all, listen to this"?

Of course this is intended as an ego stroke ("please tell me again how great I am"). I just want to point out to all the famz that this is NOT an objective review,

"Objective review?" What would you know of such a thing. Your ability to like a new Prince song has been gone for over 20 years. No matter what Prince releases, you will HATE IT! I can't think of one song you have postively commented on.

Future Soul Song, The Dance, Fury, Relfection, Eye Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore....from my memory, you think those five songs are on the same level with Jughead and Daddy Pop or even worse.

Daddy Pop is brilliant. You're slippin'.

YES!

.

But the "dafuq" looks would probably scare him into another 2 months of winter.

.

I'd like to see him "throwing records out the window, CDs out the door" and all that other fun stuff he pretends to do on records.

That wasn't a review of Plectrum Electrum, just more about their excitement to be in Paisley Park. I went the week before, and no I don't consider myself a psychophant. I hardly take offense to Bart's comments though. I mean that's why we are here, to talk about Prince. You don't have to agree or disagree with every comment that is made. His comments are no worse than "someone" labeling everything a "MASTERPIECE". If people are leaving this site because of negative comments about Prince, then too bad. I mean grow up. I think the other thread getting locked is BS, simply because a moderator got into it with a member. Very childish. There were way more than 50 people at the listening party on July 12th, too.

He has! And many times. In fact I remember a very old post where he basically listed a number of artists and bands that are on the money and producing quality music. If I remember correctly his point was that there are many other artists who are doing what Prince USED to do. ie, produce quality ground breaking music. Prince simply is not doing this and has not done it for 15 years or possibly more. He's shook. See the 'shook' thread.

sheesh, they might even have visualised the fun they might have had, had they gotten the

the question must be asked, is not this post and all those who jumped on its theme like flies on shit part of propaganda to continually attempt to diss Prince and his works?

fail?

peace.

Well said!

from the angry tone of his posts, bart does not seem like a 'generally happy' person, but more like someone who needs a punching bag in the form of Prince

So what? Prince is Prince and if there's anything someone that's been a Prince...fan? as long as Bart should know, it's that:

Prince will do what Prince wants to do, when Prince wants to do it, and how Prince wants to do it.

There's no one on Earth that can influence Prince. Certainly no anonymous poster on a message board is going to do it.

What is it called when you do the same thing year after year after year, and expect a different result?

Ha! I could not have said it better myself. So funny. Yes your right but it's not Bart doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result but rather Prince. Based on the cyclic nature of Prince's insainity I can say with large amount of certainty that a) Thirdeyegirl will end in tears. b) the next album will be lackluster music by the numbers plastic sounding drivel. If it even comes out. c) Prince will blame warners. d) The warners deal will fall through e) None of the Thirdeyegirls will speak of Prince ever again and wish to erase him from their memory.

In six months to a year you are quite welcome to come back to this post and tick off everything that has proven to be correct. I hope I'm wrong but past experience tells me I'm on the money.

One more thing, "there is no-one on earth that can influence prince". Really? So the people that HE has stated have influenced him aren't real? And besides, if you actually believe that then you are simply the sort person that Bart is highlighting as part of the problem.

We have come to the point where life is imitating art. Prince constantly reminds me of that one line in PR, "Nobody digs your music but yourself!". How true that is now. The difference between now and then is that Prince proved them wrong. He has not done that for over 15 years. In my head that line is, Nobody digs your music but yourself and all the fans that think your shit dont stink!

LMAO, now come on. It's abundantly clear that by "influencing Prince" I am not talking about musical influences. I'm talking about people that can tell Prince what he should do with his music. You and I both know there isn't anyone that can tell Prince what to do, how to do it, and when it should be done when it comes to his music, and the release/performance thereof.

I'm sorry that Prince hasn't satisfied you in recent years. I wonder why you would hang around here if he's been so consistently falling below your expectations for the last decade and a half?

The real question (and one that apparently no one dares to ask) is: "if you think this is so great, Prince, why didn't you release it three/six/nine months ago?" Or: "why the sudden promotion for a record that you ignored for the past couple of months?"

The $64,000 question.

I will likely be in the Twin Cities in early October...wonder if he'll still be holding PE listening parties then? Maybe I can go to one! biggrin razz
