Erotic City/When Doves cry

Has anyone else ever thought that the bassline from erotic city was the one stripped from when doves cry? I've been on an old school Prince kick lately and I could totally see/hear this bassline working on WDC. Thoughts?

When Doves Cry has it's bassline back in some his live performances. Not unlike the one in Erotic City, but different. Check the Nude tour version.

I always thought the bassline was his version of the 'white horse" bassline

Eroctic City was recorded in december 1983 and When Doves Cry in March 1984. No reason to assume that prince would recycle a bassline from a track that he probably already considered for release at this point for another track. I mean it's not impossible but quite unlikely if u ask me.

No, Prince just took the bass out of the final mix. Still feel for Brownmark on that one.

You might be right, however, the similarities in tempo and candence are uncanny. Two great works, regardless.
