I haven't read anything about the songs that tell some anything relevant, other than "Hannah on vocals". Why isn't anyone offering useful comparisons, e.g. "sounds like song X crossed with song Y", for instance?

.

We've been burned so often with the "fams review upcoming release" routine. Remember how the LotusFlow3r website was supposed to be this magical place, and it turned out to be a slow as fuck Java component with a bunch of well-known videos and barely any worthwhile content?

.

These fam reviews are set up to be misleading. Note how the album wasn't played to the whole group; instead small groups are selected and lead to a studio and get to listen to a selection of tracks (and as the night went on, only excerpts from those tracks) in the presence of band members and with Prince listening on a phone. That isn't looking for honest reviews, that's planting propaganda seeds.

And of course, if someone wrote "Whitecaps sounds like Let's Go Crazy crossed with ICNTTPOM" you would just accept it and thank them for their input, without dismissing them altogether for their lack of criteria or making any remarks about how Prince is no longer able to write good songs...

By the way, like most people I am tired of not having a clue of what P's plans are. His approach to this release has been appalling and not explaining to the fans what's going on is not doing them any favours. I am also aware that most of the new music is nowhere near as good as it should be (which doesn't stop me from enjoying a lot of it), and hoping for an outstanding new album is probably setting myself for disappointment (I consider the songs we have heard so far a very mixed bag), but I will not make a point of telling anyone who disagrees with my view that they are wrong. After all, neither your opinion nor Kcoolmuziq's opinion will be "better" than mine.

And with that, I'm out. See you in another thread. wink

This is a totally unnecessary comment. You've just shit on a bunch of people who you don't even know. Chanhassen isn't in the middle of nowhere, especially not if you already live in or near Minneapolis.

This is a formal warning and I'm putting a strike on your account. Calm your tone. Your constructive comments, as always, are welcome. Unwarranted negativity on the other hand is not.

think you are being harsh there Militant. Bart makes a very valid point [in his own unique way!] He right a there is no impartiality at all - which is fair enough as TBH I'd be like a bloody 'fam' if invited to P.Park to listen with the band & P on a phone! From the various reviews I have got fuck all of an idea of what these songs are like.

Seriously think as a Mod you shouldhave done it via an org note & not in public. The org is proving to be way behind when compared to twitter etc & is now even putting very relevant threads in the wrong place ! this one was in concerts FFS! Lets try & improve it & NOT turn into some rose tinted air head space that the NPG Music Club forums were! wink

Suggesting the people there might not be impartial is fine.

Calling them "a bunch of sycophants" who are "nuts" for travelling to PP is not.

Jesse is a friend of mine who was driven away from this site by this sort of behaviour. It ends now.

I posted in public as a reminder just so everybody is aware that it is unacceptable behaviour. Bart's not the only person people have been complaining about.

this is why i haven't posted on this site before... it seems like there's so much policing of opinion. a lot of prince fans are sycophants, to be honest, and will approve whatever disappointing project he puts out without questioning it because their love of prince clouds their judgment. your friend left the site because he was tired of people making negative comments about prince. is that any reason to police opinion though?

.

maybe bart was being somewhat harsh but it is his opinion and nothing he said broke the rules.

.

traveling to paisley park just to sit for hours and hours watching finding nemo, only to hear SNIPPETS of select songs? it does seem nuts. but that's just my opinion. the whole situation sounds nuts

Yeah, it is helpful to read comparisons for songs to get an idea what they might sound like.

.

It's basically a waste of time for Prince to invite fans there to hear the new music. They're likely in awe and grateful to be allowed into Prince's private studio. Sure a fan might like a particular song, but they're not likely to say if they DON'T like something. That's not necessarily getting clear feedback. That could cause the album to be less than it otherwise might be, which equates to Prince not getting the success or reaction he wants for the project. Then, of course, he'll just move on to the next thing.....

SERIOUSLY?? 'His own unique way' doesn't abide by the org's rules, yet, you're saying Militant is being harsh when he points this out to Bart (which isn't the first time.) How hard is it to exclude (disrespectful) namecalling when sharing your opinion? Obviously, it is hard for some and apparently, there are others who seem to think it should be allowed. Well, the way I see it..this is p.org (not my site) and I don't make the rules, therefore, I definately don't have to be here if I don't like them. It's not that crucial for me, but don't get me wrong, I do understand that it is for some, especially, when you have an agenda.

However, I agree with you that the mods should issue warnings via org note(s), therefore, when they strike out..account deleted!..making it none of our business...keep it moving...

To prince's defense the "LotusFlow3r" website wasn't originally like that. When prince previewed it to a select few b 4 its launch. It was graphically different & a amusement park adventure. But it was changed b4 the "fairweather" fans launch.

What do you mean by "fairweather" fans launch--those of us who waited until the very first moment we could sign up and did so right then? The people who as soon as they heard it was going to happen didn't even have to decide whether they were going to pay on the mere chance that something worthwhile was going to be there?

.

I don't care what 3 or 4 of Prince's best friends might have seen, or what the programmers came up with that he didn't use, or even what he might have shown somebody as a leak to build promotion. The site WAS what was actually launched--and yeah, it was slow, and had hardly anything (separate from the Lotusflow3r album and videos related to it) that wasn't already out there. Certainly not $75 dollars worth. What matters is what he delivered to those who paid. I'm not someone who spends a lot of time complaining, but your use of "fairweather fans" to refer to the people who supported the project is kind of insulting. Just because we're not "on the inside" doesn't mean we aren't fans, and don't deserve respect. If Prince actually had something better, and then gave us THAT? Well, that's just rude. It makes it worse, and you hardly seem to be coming to his defense, since what you say doesn't paint him in a positive light. If he had an "amusement park adventure" (and certainly the press suggested something more), then that's what he should have gone live with. If that was just some ideas jotted down that never came to fruition--it should have never been ballyhooed, and the less said about it now, the better.

regarding the release date chatter, Warner does take long to release every artist project not just Princes, even worst with newer artists, development takes 3-4 years, 150-200 songs recorded with most never seeing the light of day, both artist and music.

I've spent the last decade of my life working at major record labels, the first half at warner and now at universal , and I can say this

from a marketing perspective its best to release both albums on the same date for the most impact and higher first week sales, better chance at having both the 30th re-release and new album picked up by consumers at Target, walmart , best buy and promoted simultaneously in the circulars. Same for itunes and spotify bigger marketing play.

Regarding USBS, most likely will never see the light of day as a mass release, the cost to mass produce USBs is more than a CD, little to no ROI, also Target and Walmart turn their noses up at this type of media distribution as they have not accommodated for this space in their music sections. Definitely a possibilty for USBs within a D2C package or as Warner likes to call it D2F presale packages at a higher price point , definitely not included in a standard or deluxe package but something funkierrr like the plectrumelectrum top of the spectrum package lol priced at $49.99-$59.99 to include a USB, Vinyl and other cool stuff. Warner leads all label groups in D2F sales, this should be the priority, getting together a killer D2F package should be the focus. also focus should be on high quality streaming as it exceeds downloads by far.

also releases typically get bumped up earlier when the label doesnt reach its numbers for that quarter, so in some instances a q4 priority release could gets pushed up to q3 release.

As a fan encourage, a friend and family to follow prince on twitter, instagram and facebook, the social numbers are pretty low, also Shazam "The breakdown" purple army, the viral charts tell the story, the labels and radio programmers want to hear.

Lol so Sorry about that! D2c is direct to consumer or direct to fan, basically labels works with artists/management to come up with merchandise to presale albums with, for example a standard package could be the physical cd with a free instant download, a deluxe package could include a cd, mp3 download of the album, tshirt, keychain and added to a list for early show ticket presale , then superstar artists have super deluxe packages sometime up to two, i was suggesting for prince fans a super deluxe package which includes high quality wavs on usb, a vinyl, etc these super deluxe packages are designed for the uber fan who dont mind the high price poiny, i dont see casual prince fans purchasing usds but definitely the cd or itunes download

that is because BOWIE is an intelligent and knowledgable guy, who knows how to play the mass audience and not try and wind up his fans. Bowie had an album before 'TOY' that remains officially unreleased (but now all tracks are on line) but he never bitched, it was just that the album didnt fit it to release schedules, so what did he do? he recorded a newer album and released that quickly instead. Keeping the fans happy. PRINCE really should learn.

Wow. In all of my years participating and being part of this forum, I have never viewed such absolutely atrocious moderation behavior. Sir, it is understood that prince.org is not a democracy and that free speech rules do not apply, nor should they. That being a given, and allowing for the rules of conduct described for this websites users, this was an extremely ugly and ham-fisted way to moderate a post. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Please see fit to resign as moderator in as timely a manner as possible. Thank you.

I do not normally comment on these types of posts, however, I partially agree with squirrel. I agree the site needs moderation, and, I realize that people make comments we don't always agree with. But, to publicly admonish an opinion and publicly determining accountability is unnecessary. As often as I have seen the comment," take it to org notes," or" deal directly with the mod," it should be the same for posts. That is why mods can edit or delete or snip comments. It should be in org note discussions. I have seen way more negativity/abusive/innappropriate behavior in various other threads that are handled no where near what this was. And yes, I understand they should be reported, however, is that not what moderation is for?

To O( >'s defense the "LotusFlow3r" website wasn't originally like that. When O( > previewed it to a select few b 4 its launch. It was graphically different & a amusement park adventure. But it was changed b4 the "fairweather" fans launch.

Fairweather eh? Just because I didn't pay a couple of thousand for flights, hotels etc? Yeah, right, way to offend almost everyone.

And how is this in his defense? He launched the tatty web site...

Eye happen to like both configurations of "LotusFlow3r.com".Eye admit Eye wish the first configuration would have worked out. But neither was tatty! U the ones just mad because he didn't want to put his vault "MasterPieces" on it.

Eye got to purchase Xclusive first pick tickets, to a GRAND 3 night Lotusflow3r launching per4mance, from that innovative site.

prince has more than made up 4 its early demise since then, by christening all of U, with his live Xclusive 3RDEYEGIRL web series! Plus handing U an albums worth of trax in the process.

Still U are never satisfied! Still moan & complain about everything, from his fro, to his beautiful woman around him, even complain about prince personally inviting U to his plush Paisley Park estate to listen to his carefully crafted new MEGA trax.. disbelief

Bullying is not OK. People who were at that party participate in this forum. Some of them have left because of this exact behaviour.

Lotusflow3r membership was worth more for people who, like you, are near the cities where events occur. I'm not. So I paid the same money for membership, but got less. Can you understand that?

As to the "web series"--I don't know what you mean. The livestream? Only good if you are available to watch when it starts (at least, once Prince shut down those who shared the streams after the fact). Since that was usually in the middle of the night where I am, it was pretty much useless. And that's a completely different project, 4 years later... and how does it make up to those who paid for something that years later he "gives something away" to everybody. If I sell you a sandwich, give you half of one, and then 5 years later offer a free meal that you can't come to--how does that make up for anything?

I don't complain about his fro, his woman (if he has one, I have no idea about his love life), and I certainly wouldn't complain if I were "personally invited" to Paisley. I might not go (I have obligations to other people that I can't necessarily drop because of an offer, no matter how great from anyone).

And no one on this site has been "christened" by Prince. What on earth do you mean by that?
