It's pop music of high quality. Doesn't really sound like a hit, but should allow Ora to have some more artistic credibility than what many have granted her before. If she wanted a track that would sound more like Janelle Monae, Jill Scott or whatever, this should do the trick.

Gotta appreciate Prince's twisted vision of giving a track that has "She Spoke 2 Me" type horns to someone like Ora that's associated with the mainstream radio and club stuff favoured by the youth of today. razz

What's Prince's involvement in the song? Did he just produce it with Josh or did he write it as well?

Thanks.

The song itself doesn't seem particularly memorable, but I like the general feel to it. And the horns, of course...

If I judged U make my sunshine by the first minute and 20 second I'd think that song was horrible.. if I did the same with Sticky Like Glue I'd think that was horrible to. The moral is, you can't judge a song by a snippet.

Change it one more time..

Which is why they need to stop this foolishness. By leaking snippets (which will always be disappointing), they set up initial buzz that has a great deal of negative to it. Then by the time the full thing comes, many people have already formed opinions based on the snippet, and the actual full track doesn't even get a listen.

This is just dumb.

IMHO.

Cool song...people are just critical because Rita is a popstar. If it was some non singing indy singer, everyone would be going crazy.

Btw, the new St. Vincent album is so Prince-inspired that he should be getting royalties. Excellent p interpretations.

Fine. I don't have a feeling about the track, can't really form one until the full version is released. I did look around a little at some other comments... and I got to say, compared to what I've read here, there are some really nasty mean things out there. Some people seem to really hate Rita Ora. Like, really hate. On a really personal level. And the other responses (once you get past the more or less press-release of the article and into the comments) tend to be about the same as many of the responses here. Because, honestly, people are usually responding to what they already think about a performer, not responding to the piece of work actually in front of them. Which means the only people who say anything already hate or love everything.

And, btw, my point was that I think it's a better idea to go ahead and play the whole song--and that's not a Prince-specific complaint. I don't like when anyone teases a minute or so of a song. It stinks. It lets people form opinions based on little or nothing, which raises the chance that the opinions will be negative (an incomplete work is more likely to be disappointing than a complete one), and I can't see how that's good for a work of art (or commerce). But whatever. The org is negative and I need to go home. Got it.

As I said, can't form an opinion on the song--and being a pop star is great, in my view.

And I agree on the St. Vincent album. At least as far as it's being good. I hadn't actually thought much about Prince in connection with it, however.

No it's not that she is a pop star... Who cares if she is a pop star... Read what people say and accept. They don't like the song... Because they have heard it before

It's probably the best thing I've heard from Prince/Josh. It's still Bad Prince. There is no doubt Prince wrote this becasue it features one of Bad Prince's worst writing habits: speed lyrics. That is straight cornball! It screams bad rap. Like when people who can't rap spit, they instinctively try to cram a 1000 words into a bar or whatever. The Sun The Moon and Stars was kind of cool using that method, but I don't remember another Prince song where it didn't sound bad.

Question--

Princevault seems to say that there have been two different mixes previewed--is this correct? One was up for just a few minutes, if I'm reading the entry right.

Yep, of course, anyone can do anything, doesn't mean judging the entire song based on the snippet is entirely rational. And the key word in your statement is ME (You). I think the point of snippets is to get the people interested in a certain sound interested. If a sound isn't for you then its not for you, its as simple as that. I liked both this snippet and the This could be us snippet... I also liked the Superconducter snippet before that was released. I did not like the Fallinluv2nite piece they played on New Girl and it didn't raise my interest in the slightest, but to many orgers it did. So I dont think the point is to make something thats universally going to be liked (because universal concensuses of Prince's music do NOT exist and never have), its to get those that do like something to get interested in it.

Change it one more time..

It cracks me up to see so many heads give this a pass because of how (admittedly) fine Rita is. Luckily, she has a decent voice; as Alexandernvrmind mentioned her voice is the only thing I like about this. Nonetheless, the comments about this psuedo- "Glamorous Life" knockoff remind me of this...

"As fine as she is, she doesn't have to know how to sing." lol lol lol
