"Van Gogh" and "Love Is"

I recently rediscovered "Van Gogh" and fell in love with it all over again. I'm sure part of the reason is because it fits a situation I'm in to the letter. But I've always felt that it should have been included on one of the late 90's albums. It definitely would've been a stand out on any one of them.

I understand that it is derivative of a song called "Love Is" by Sandra St. Victor. Is her version available somewhere online?

At one point Sandra St. Victor had it on her website. She had the full version. She also had the full "Sanctuary" (the basis for "Soul Sanctuary") and full "I'll Never Open My Legs Again" (the basis for "I'll Never Be Another Fool"), and 2:00 snippets of "Nothing Left To Give" (Prince version "Stone") and "How We Livin" (Prince version usually "Livin 2 Die").

They might still be available, I'm not sure. The website's completely different--they were featured on a page about the unreleased project entitled "Sanctuary," which at the time was still fairly recent.

About the Prince version--Princevault doesn't mention it, but I have a 5:00 version lacks the prominent horns, has different drums--just generally a different feel. Who knows anything?

Also--what do people think about the version released by Van Gogh?

Thanks for the info, Eddie. I scanned Sandra's website and I don't think she has any of that material available anymore.

I wanted to really like the track, but couldn't get into it. I heard it probably 30 times and just gave up. It is not a bad song by any means, but just one of those songs like FixUrLifeUP that sounds ok at first, but doesn't really go anywhere. I probably like Fix a little better, but it's no masterpiece.

IIRC we have a bootleg version of the prince version that's a different edit than the released version. The later shoulda been on either The Chocolate Invasion or The Slaughterhouse alongside My Medallion, When Will We Be Paid?, Cybersingle, Jukebox In A Heartbeat and Instrumental. IDK why he wouldn't make those awesome albums 13 tracks each instead of 10 rolleyes I just love those High/Peace sessions so much biggrin

.

I've NEVER heard the version by Van Gogh. Well, there is (or was) a medley of the album on their website so I've heard a few seconds of it but I've never been able to put my hands on a digital copy of the full track. The snippet, well, the whole album's snippets in fact really weren't to my taste to be honest, I'm not so much in2 that kinda rock.

.

But I've just checked and I c it's available on iTunes now so me gonna at long last get it biggrin
