We'll see. TC Ellis supports my point.

He certainly doesn't, read his innerview @Dye.

No I mean he is an example of my point - since working with Prince he hasn't had a very successful recording and performing career in his own right. Maybe he didn't want one and he's very happy doing what he's doing but I think Donna is different.

databank, do you realize that the only other person that consistently uses prince to spell Prince is KCOOLMUZIQ?

razz I dunno. Thought that might be reason enough for you to stop. lol

Just havin' fun. You wanna keep using the symbol, go ahead. I agree with others in wishing you didn't, sure. But, so what? We're not the boss of you. wink

If me calling Prince prince is the biggest of y'all problems I say y'all are the happiest people on earth biggrin

Just fun, nothing ethereal. I'm playful, let me play wink

Works for me! thumbs up!

TC was supposed 2 release 3 other albums on Paisley Park and when WB shut the label down they told him they wouldn't release those albums, nonetheless they contractually had 2 pay 4 the recording of those 3 albums: TC got almost a million bucks all at once, how about that? Instead of trying and pursuing a recording career he decided to use that money to open a recording studio, which eventually took him to become the successful and recognized educator he is now. What TC meant is that there's more 2 life than stardom. He still works in the music business but he does it as an educator and this career is something he wouldn't trade 4 a recording career. But people don't see beyond the tip of their nose, all they see is either u're Madonna or u're a failure. This is not how the music industry works. Most people think all those people that used 2 b in prince's camp failed because they never became stars, this is ridiculous, save a few like Taja Sevelle who totally gave up on music, most of them manage to make a living as musicians one way or another.

.

Donna was never destined 4 stardom, she was destined to be a professional musician that would be lucky enough to record her own albums every once in a while and do session studio work and live gigs 4 a living, like 99% of the professional musicians in this world do. Working with prince will be nothing but an asset in that game: she'll learn a lot from it and it'll open many doors. There is a difference between prince's partners in the 80's (bandmembers and people from his side projects) and Donna Grantis: those people all aimed at stardom and wanted to be the next prince or the new successful female singer. All those people were the same age as prince, young, hungry and competitive, and the market back then offered them very well paid recording contracts because of the prince connection (and nothing else, they could have become successful session musicians, arrangers, producers, you name it, by themselves, but it's very likely that neither Morris, André, Jesse, Mark, Wendy & Lisa, Vanity, Appolonia, Bobby, Paul nor Sheila would have gotten a solo act recording deal if it hadn't been 4 the prince connection. To some extent it's very likely that even SueAnn and Alexander benefited from those Mpls roots).

.

Now you'll notice that none of prince's bandmembers after 1987 had similar ambitions. Not a single one. Some like Rhonda or the Hornheads may release a solo record independently every once in a while 4 fun, but the core of their job is session work and live gigs and I think they're all happy that way. Donna may enjoy some success as an indie but she knows better than to expect being the next Ani DiFranco: she's a musician b4 she's a singer or a songwriter. That's her skill: playing the guitar extremely well. There's no way she can lose any prospects from this 3rdEyeGirl experience, no way. Most people think that all of prince's ex musicians since 1987 now work at McDonald's. U'd b surprised: most of them r still professional musicians today, working in the field one way or another, doing studio session work, live tours with bigger acts, composing for ads or TV or movies, working as producers or engineers, having a small band that tours enough 2 pay the rent, teach music, etc.

Jeez - I don't have the time to read all that - never mind answer it! All I'm saying is that I think Donna might be pissed off if PE doesn't come out. None of us will really know if she is, but I think she might be - okay? I'm sure the rest of what you say is absolutely true but we still don't know Donna wants from her life really, do we?

I'm hoping that This Could B Us gets released today seeing as it's based of a meme that used a purple rain photo as the source... It's not exactly the remaster I was hoping for, or a new album but... Dammit Prince, just release it!

and maybe... for some, also the other way around? I'm mainly talking for myself now, and I never clicked on any of those links smile I also never downloaded jack shit from his current online-only-stuff. MP3s and fucking youtube clips? yaak! are you kidding me?? thanks but NO thanks.
still I own all his PHYSICAL albums (and most PHYSICAL singles, maxis, VHS, DVDs etc.) and will continue to BUY ALL new PHYSICAL releases (including the bad ones) til the end of times, no questions asked. and I know a bunch of fellow old timers legacy fans who act and think like me.

whatever, I just don't think the clicks translate directly to sales, especially when a great part of the fans are older than Jesus. also remember, the internet is dead

Ehhh....

He did not even post a short snippet of the song(s).

So he is not so sure of the material.

Or totally forgot about the audience that he is making the songs for.

So I don't perceive a tease. There's so many unheard, unreleased songs.

Maybe the name of P's new album is "Just the Tip"

And all would suspect that its a thinly veiled shout out to J.T. lurking

so is it prince who wanted to release a new album on warners this year?

Probably because he had a brainfart and decided that it should be "something old, something new". Typical lack of focus. Same kind of shit that kept TBA unavailable for so long, that kept a Hits collection from being released for so long,...

Ok, peeps! Enough Already! Has anybody even stopped a moment to think? Maybe Prince owns Shares of Stock in Warner Brothers and is on the Board to make his own decisions, while being saavy about the direction of the music, signing with them and making money at both ends of the prosperous infinitive candle of joy! Ahem, ya'll think again! The Man Is Smart! Have A Great Day!

No, of course not.
Of all the people on this site, you are the ONLY person who saw fit to stop and think before posting your opinion. rolleyes

And you're posting an awful lot of 'maybes' to be making such an arrogant assumption towards others. rolleyes

So far, from the back-and-forth, I'm seeing a lot of speculation, a lot of good points-and-counter points, none of which indicate to me that people are just mindlessly posting just to post. rolleyes

As far is this situation goes, I'm dissapointed the PR re-issue isn't dropping the month of the actual Purple Rain anniversary. However, this is typical Prince, afterall. I mean, his 1999-TNM nonsense was released at a strange time and to very littel fanfare.

At this time, only Prince fans actually care that remasters are being released. The general public knows so little about his actual material these days, that they would have no clue why a definitive remaster is of any value to them. It would be like trying to get a Prince fan circa 1988 to get excited about an Englebert Humperdink boxset. Folks just don't care.

If Prince really does "finally" have a cohesive album (a big fuck you ThirdEyeGirl falloff ), then with some luck and promotion on WB's part, as well as touring on Prince's part, can generate a little bit of buzz. But at this point, he's really rebuilding a brand, and I've seen him attempt this with 3 previous albums, none of which worked. At 55 years of age, rebuilding a brand and trying to connect to a larger audience may just require the one thing Prince hasn't tried in the last decade---consistantly releasing solid, innovative albums.

I agree with this. In an age of diminishing returns, WB is going to play this safe. But, they would have done so otherwise. Prince may make his money off of touring, but WB will be focused on as much ROI for the actual music sales as possible.

It's still an odd marriage though. A company in a struggling industry agreeing to release material for an artist who has proven his ability to sabotage his success over and over again. One would hope that they get it right this time, but perhaps we're seeing two entities settle out of desperation.

On a different subject, does anyone else think it's terribly rude to invite someone to a sitdown, and not even show up to your own interview? Why not just phone that shit in if you're going to make the guy show up? Seems terribly unprofessional.
