because thats the only place/version I've heard and

I wasn't impressed. Reminded me of The Work from

Rainbow Children.

"whacky" Mad scientist Prince is the Prince i miss the most. It comes back briefly in this song....although i feel this is some kind of offspring to F.U.N.K.
Live it is amazing. The recent gigs have had this track blowing the arena sky high! "faster!"

One thing i can say, though is that the studio version is criminally short.

Admittedly, the symbols are a bit loud . I think the studio version that appeared on the radio might have been cut short. I hope so anyway.

I rather enjoyed it on Arsenio but the studio version is so shrill and obnoxious I had to cover my ears. 'The Work' is a MUCH stronger track, imo.

I agree, had heard the Asenio version and wasn't convinced, but as the 1st song at the LG, it set the mood for the whole night a bit of funk and a whole load of noise guitar!

Just hope that the album has the power of the live shows.... hope he's listened to and taken notes from Neil Youngs Le Noise from a few years back (and for that matter - the arrangement style/recording of "What's My Name" with the load smashing drums and calm phases.... which I listen to 4 times on the trot last night to tribute last Thursdays playnig!)

How close to the front were you? My Son and I were at the very front against the barriers, just to the left of the Sybol Mike stand, feet from Prince and when the first note of 'Whats my name' was played by Ida someone shouted out the title of the song at the top of his voice from near the front and Prince stopped and pointed straight at the guy in acknowledgement. Cool!

I got stuck in my mind after listening to it once on Arsenio. Despite having heard it maybe five times overall, just playing the Arsenio video, it still appears regularly on my internal jukebox. And I'm not at all in love with the way all parts sound live, there's just something in there that makes it very memorable.

Love this track - saw it live at SBE, and Kings Place, as well as on Arsenio.

Think that the studio version sounded great too.

It just has a great energy to it - and an excellent "band" feel to it - a proper vibe, rather than just someone noodling in the studio.

Was genuinely disappointed it wasn't played at CDP, as it would have rocked that tiny place down!

Love it a lot. All the live ones I've heard, Arsenio, studio, all of them.

i had the same thing with Pretzelbodylogic, which i really don't like at all.

so it was quite disturbing to have that chorus stuck in my head for a few

days and constantly looping around in there

the same thing happened to me with FixUrLifeUp, which i also don't really

like at all (they are the first 2 prince songs i didn't officially buy).

so we have to admit that there's something there that makes these songs

memorable enough to stick in your mind like that.

Yeah, just listened to the radio version, and it really is one of the best funk tracks he's released for a while. I love 3rd Eye Girl, but I have to admit that many of the new songs by them we've heard have been rather mediocre (actually I do like Pretzelbodylogic, but I don't think that's a particularly popular opinion). This, on the other hand, feels like "old" Prince, especially with the Camille-esque vocals on the radio version. Great opener for the concert on the 15th as well.

Of course, the obvious thing to do would be to release such a great track that he's been playing for a while, so that the fans don't have to resort to illicit means to hear it. But, I guess it's like the old addage says: Princey-boy moves in mysterious ways.

I love it. It's was great live the other night.

The 3 songs From 3rd Eye Girl I've heard are all great, this is probably my favorite. I have really high expectations of Plectrum Electrum. I can't wait o get my hands on a copy of that album.

I prefer the studio version, but I liked it on Arsenio as well. Since Prince loves cutting lyrics short live, it's the perfect live song for him. I'd like it on the new album

i LOVE FunkNRoll with a passion! in my opinion, its probably the best song he's done since 20Ten along with Something In The Water (Reloaded - Manchester show from HITNRUN 2014) and She's Always In My Hair (Reloaded - The Beautiful Experience).

i got a live version from the LiveOutLoud tour and fell in love with it instantly!

"another mother-father UR commiting a crime" then go into the whole groove of the chorus, just PERFECT!

Love it too. Wasn't into the live version on Arsenio, but the studio version is great. It has a similar vibe to older tracks like "Rockhard In A Funky Place", "Feel U Up" and so on, just mixed with the rock feel on the drums of the 3EG era. I am hoping it will appear on his solo album instead of the 3EG stuff, because it deserves recognition as a legit Prince track.
