I believe something like that was mentioned in the Essence article.

He's been doing this for 15 years hasn't he? I mean, why the sudden headline? Oh wait, it's the Daily Mail, I shouldn't expect their journalists to do basic research on the subject they're covering, that would be far too taxing.

It's because the rest of the rest of the world hasn't cared enough to notice the past 15 years.

They have a habit if rerunning stories...but 16 years after the event is so s going. Also embellished slightly too...Darling Nikki doesn't give me any indication of age of Nikki but they seem to have interpreted it as inappropriate. They do know Horny Pony isn't about a randy young horse don't they?

One horrible thought...he's not editing the remasters is he, not sure I could buy the 1999 remaster with "I sincerely want to floss the taste out of your mouth"

I hope he doesnt fliter all this back catalouge

That would be terrible

its a shame we dont hear songs like Sister, Head, Erotic City amongst others again

I remember the LoveSexy Tour at Wembley and the part where he went into Camille mode was unforgetable. Jumping on the bed singing Bob George, Erotic City, Sister, Head etc was a highlight for me

Sudden story about a subject as old as your grandma - I guess because he's paying someone to do PR and they're -gasp- actually doing their job for once?

But they're...like...12. So they have no idea of the history. lol

I agree with P that swearing doesn't generate any good.

Better treat people with dignity, respect and good manners than being negative.

I did not read anything about him speaking of dismissing every erotic reference. That is not the same as swearing or disrespecting anybody, imo.

Prince's use of profanity was never that impressive to begin with...except maybe to people who were in middle school at the time.

You wanna hear clever use of profanity then listen to some old George Carlin or Richard Pryor routines.

Cussing just for the heck of it is not really clever.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Nobody knows/cares what Horny Pony is about outside of 10 Prince fans.

"This song is about dancing, and by no means endorses acts of extramarital sex." (intro to "Horny Pony"--NPGMC version)

You don't have to change the actual track to make it acceptable--just add little disclaimers. Like for "Darling Nikki", he could just record a spoken intro like this: "This song is reallly about that cool breakdown after I scream grind, grind, grind! I just said all the stuff that seems to describe inappropriate behavior because, well, it seemed like it would lead into that part pretty well. Oh, and the bit at the very end that's played backwards--I meant that too. Even though it's backwards. I thought it sounded cool that way. I wasn't trying to call up Satan or anything... so don't worry. It's all good. So, here's the song--don't do any of these things. Even if they sound interesting. That would be wrong... very, very wrong. Really."

I think it was the Mail (but could be totallywrong) that grabbed the 'name to a male and female symbol' / Victor/Victoria story and ran like a headless chicken with it by claiming he was doing something to negate the need for a sexual partner other than himself

I really hate the thought of the lyrics to my favorite songs being changed, too, and when they first started this publishing business, that was my first fear. But, after thinking about it, I think it's unfair for me, as a fan, to be mad at him if he chooses to change them on the grounds that he doesn't want to A.- Be a negative influence or B.- Be represented by work he no longer identifies with. I mean, the old versions aren't going to disappear, so it's not like we won't have them.. so if he does change the lyrics, I guess I'll just accept it because it is HIS work and HIS creative output afterall and it's not my place to tell him how to express himself.

That's just my 2cents.

Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

Hey, hey, hey! no no no!

I may have only been in middle school at the time Prince was impressing me, singing about Head and getting freaky with his Sister but I was still mature enough to appreciate the clever cussing stylings of George Carlin and Richard Pryor's routines.

lol

"I met her in a hotel lobby turning pages of a magazine"?

NO PRINCE. That's NOT even close to what she was doing! Let's see how he gets around that one and if he uses my line I'm suing his ass for copyright. He's a grown Goddamn man! He ain't gotta go "Bitch, bitch, bitch, sexy mother-OWWA" but just one "Ill write a letter when I learn how to spell, but until that day you can go to HELL!" won't hurt! YOU GROWN! I swear more than he does and I'm not even supposed to dammit
