Should a "From the Vault" series include Prince versions of side projects

This is all wishlisting of course but...

1. We look like we might be getting Remastered Deluxe editions of all Prince's WB albums (certainly PR, likely the 80s albums, hopefully all 18 of them)

2. The press release indicated unheard/unreleased songs which could mean a "From the Vault..." series.

If 2 is right then do people think these vault releases should stick to Prince's music intended for himself or should they also include tracks he recorded with other artists in mind, ie The Time, Jill Jones etc?

'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

This image is mercilessly seared into my brain. So no. Nothing with the word Vault.

I love THAT album! Works very well. Flows well. Has a coherent sound. All it really needed was 2 or 3 more tracks!

It would be utterly fantastic to get high quality Prince versions of some songs he gave to other artists, like his versions of "The Screams of Passion", "Mutiny", "Get It Up", "777-9311", "100 MPH", "Wouldn't You Love To Love Me?" etc. Some of these are circulating, but in poor quality.

agreed!...i need to hear me some Violet Blue.

Love these songs already, but would love to hear his vocals on Manic Monday, My Drawers, Glamorous Life(he sings through most of it already, turn up his vocals and remove Sheila's), Gigolos Get Lonely Too and I Don't Want To Leave You...to name a few

Ala The Bob Dylan Bootleg Series, The Vault series could have a Volume of Protegee/Related artist tracks.

P's versions of those tracks should including as a bonus disc with every remaster of each project, nowhere else. When it comes 2 random songs he gave 2 others they'd belong to outtakes comps. We already got Van Gogh and 5 Women so that's not unthinkable.

I can't wait to get P's renditions of Nasty Girl and My Man lol

The first one would be an instant classic transsexual anthem and the second an instant classic gay anthem falloff

So you would prefer all protege albums to be remastered and include a bonus disk that includes Prince's orginal versions...hmmm I would certainly buy those and it could in fact make them more marketable than, for example, "buy the remastered Jill Jones album" (most people say "who") vs "buy the remastered Jill Jones album including the original versions of each song by Prince" (some people say "hmm that sounds interesting").

Saying that though (of course the likes of us would buy them) what IF there are no, and never will be, remasters of protege albums? What then? Would you still want the Prince versions included somewhere else (ie on a "Vault" series)?

There might not be proper versions with Prince's vocals around of many of the songs. The vocals could be very sketchy on quite a few of them as they were intended to be replaced. The songs he gave away, like "The Dance Electric" or "The Sex Of It", are of course fully formed songs with great production, but just consider what his versions of, say, "Chocolate" or "Melody Cool" are like they're hardly representing him in the best possible way.

I'd like to hear him on vocals for "101" which I think is one his finest songs given to someone else.

Assume you mean my hypothesis that there may never be remasters of protege albums is nonsense right? But how can you be so sure? Until we have the official announcement or product in our hand all of this is hypothesis. All we know for certain is that WB and Prince have a deal to remaster PR and, according to the press release, release unheard songs.

So on the basis that I put forward a hypothesis - ie no remastered protege albums, my quesiton stands re whether you would want Prince versions of, say, All Day All Night on a Prince Vault release?

I am so sure because it's a matter of common sense. What also is a matter of common sense is not to believe we'll get everything these next 2 years just cos WB and P made a deal. But we'll get 'em... eventually.

But anyway what if there's no Prince Vault series, would u have All Day, All Night on a Jill Jones remaster or not at all?

What makes u so sure that there's gonna b a vault series at all?

2 can play this game wink

Are you a politician wink classic evasion and not answering my hypothetical question!!!!! lol

I have no idea if there will be a Vault series but I truly truly hope there is! As said on various threads my dream would be both remastered deluxe editions of the WB albums (with b-sides, extended/12", alternate versions and outtakes) AND a vault series collecting up the other songs not intended for the released WB albums.

Just wishlisting of course!!!!

I love his version of Desire, Get Blue, Allegiance, and I'm sure others exist that many here would want to possess. I look forward to more details emerging about this WB deal.

Im sure some of the "other artists" songs performed by Prince would even sell quite well. Nothing Compares to You, studio version could be sold to the masses. Manic Monday, Nasty Girl.

.

In fact, an album of songs that others made hits, sung by Prince could possibly be quite a hit. It would be one of those "I didnt realise Prince did THAT song" scenarios. Or, of course, people would just think he was scraping the bottom of the barrel and releasing a covers album!

.

Actually, on second thoughts, best to leave all of that alone. Lets just have Prince outakes and extended jams along with the remastered album.

I would buy that! I would work well as part of a series of Vault releases.
