I think it's beautiful how this community of people worked together and accomplished something! We got him from 26 all the way to 2! Congrats to the human race for learning to cooperate and work as a team! Or is that just us kind, loving, beautiful Prince fans? Lol.

Prince is number one-although the heading says dylan is number one!! 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Voted....Prince at #1 by a good lead at the moment.

I ain't gonna vote for Prince! Although I love him dearly I just don't consider him the greatest songwriter of all times, he wrote too many clunkers and has watered down his songwriting legacy that way. I believe Stevie Wonder would be more deserving of this title. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I agree. Between here, Twitter and Facebook, the Prince fan community is stronger than ever. It's a beautiful thing. |

This list is bullshit even with Prince being number one. You tell me that Prince is better than Bob Dylan lyrically? Can Prince write something like "Like a Rolling Stone" or "Hurricane"? We all know, critics know, everybody knows that nobody, literally nobody ever in the history of recorded music can top Bob Dylan in terms of lyrics, and after Bob Dylan there's Bruce, Lennon-McCartney and Joni Mitchell as contenders, Prince's songs sometimes are even so cheesy and stuff, even Bob Dylan at his worst can write a better song than Prince at his absolute motherfucking best. if I should vote for my favorite songwriter I'd probably go with Prince since I'm a big fan of his, but if we're arguing about The Greatest Songwriter of All Time then that's fucking Bob Dylan and I know, Rolling Stone knows, PASTE knows, goddamn history knows that for a fucking fact. yupp...and that list is internationally and universally accepted and taken as serious.... anybody can create a list on that page...

Def yeah! Agree!! Stevie Wonder, Lennon-McCartney, Bruce Springsteen are all better songwriters than Prince.

#1! What? | |

upped: Prince is good at #1 (but more as performer/artist, then as songwriter. Better too have aa different list, but still nice to see him in a #1 spot somewhere ) Brian Wilson (should be 2nd) Paul/John (good at 3) Stevie wonder & Paul Simon (they both are too low (should be 4 & 5 as far as i'm concerned) Number 6 is indeed completely missing from the list and it's Neil Diamond, realy shame he is not in the list!
The rest.....is all equeal to me. [Edited 4/29/14 5:46am]

Although i upped Prince just to give him some credit.....the list is a load of shit lol. So many artists missing or not getting the props....i mean, Kate Bush? Arguably Britains greatest songwriter. Where's Sly Stone? Where's many other artists?! [Edited 4/29/14 6:15am] This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

how is it that prince can be the BEST songwriter of all time and at the same time the WORST songwriter of all time ... strange but true
lots of names missing on this list .. robert smith .. black francis .. johnny cash .. chuck berry .. james brown
and that guy that says mj come together is better than beatles has lost a ton of critical cred .. seriously .. that must be some good crack

[Edited 4/29/14 6:15am] Yeah...subjectivity is often the case for debate on these lists but it seems any necessary objectivity is out the window as well. Though, maybe the generational shift and what what people want out of their songwriters is more than shifting. At least Elvis and MJ aren't on it. That's encouraging.

I completely agree, he has written some songs that are absolutely up there with the best, but so many 'songs' that are plain rubbish too... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

i admire stevie wonder greatly but how many great songs has he written in the last 30 years ?...he had his great run of albums in the 70s the same as prince did in the 80s...i would say prince is the better songwriter because he has a little bit more variety than stevie did...every artist has their golden period but for some reason prince is attacked more because he isnt writing when doves crys anymore..?...when was the last time stevie wrote a superstition calibre song..?
