It's possible since the released version of The Breakdown is from 2012, I guess we will never see the 3EG version cuz I find it hard 2 believe that he will release it also on the 3EG album. This could also mean that we won't get a rockier 3EG version of 2y2d

I don't know... Wow is supposedly on Plectrumelectrum, while The Unexpected is on The Unexpected (obviously), so maybe we might see the two different versions released. I hope so because I would much rather hear a 3EG version of The Breakdown.

I reckon you may see a Purple Rain remastered version and a whole new 10 tracks from Prince with it.

This way his new music gets exposure alongside his classic

That may just work

Putting new stuff next to the Purple Rain stuff just sounds like an exercise in self-defeat. Unless of course the new stuff is top, top tier. I think too many unfair comparisons would be made.

Prince has been waiting 4 a good distributer for a while now to unleash this new album. "The Time" has come & this year is going 2 b BIG as promised.....

2013 was supposed to be the BIG year, I seem to remember.

Yep, exactly.

According to Nik: Breakfast Can Wait and The Breakdown are on the new album, and Will You B might be on there. It's very funk orientated, Prince goes crazy on Larry Graham's bass in one track, there's a lot of Andy Allo, and The Breakdown is representitive of the album lyrically. She also said there are a lot of 'club bangers'.

I'd rather see PE get an official release than just be dropped after all the build up (Tamar anyone?)

I don't care if it gets it's own release or get's bundled with Prince's new album (Lotus/MPLS/Elixer style). I'd even take a digital only release, although, knowing it was planned as having a vinyl release, paying for digital only would piss me off a bit. Release it only on vinyl would be interesting.

headbang

That said, the band (3rd Eye Girl) seems more like a side project to me, not a showcase for a new direction for his career. I've bought all the tracks that have been released and heard most of what has been streamed and I just don't think it's what should be presented as "Prince's new album".

In my not-so-humble opinion, of course... wink

Hmmm well if Lenny Kravitz can release his next album on Kobalt Label Services then why can't Prince & 3rdEyeGirl?

My theory is that all the time they have been developing Plectrumelectrum (during 2013) in the background there has been the ongoing negotiations with Warner Bros (and it was resolution of those negotiations that were of greatest importance to Prince - and the most lucrative).

So Plec... is a victim of the WB deal and Kobalt are likely thinking "huh"

Saying that I still think Plec... will come out at some point.

IA and I have a feeling the 3EG era is all but over now. Seems like he's tapping into the "old school" Prince and the Andy Allo years by having some of the songs they recorded on the album. It would be cool if he did a double album though smile

I can't see why WB would make the same mistake again by releasing three albums (4 CDs probably) at the same time. It was one of the biggest reason why they couldn't agree anymore, remember ?

I might be wrong of course, but just imagine :
-PR remastered (=2 CDs)
-Prince's new album (1 cd)
-3rdEyeGirl (1 cd)

Production costs will be high. And Plectrum Electrum will suffer in sales from the highlight of the new remasters of PR and new Prince album... Maybe also the other way around.
Again, Prince isn't WB, and WB know the industry better then Prince does these days.

Or Plectrum Electrum will be released through Kobalt, maybe distributed by WB. But that's it.

Again, I might be wrong, but this is my humble opinion. I'm afraid PE will be shelved. I hope not though...

I know there is a total split in opinion here (on the ORG) between:

- 3rdEyeGirl are great, Prince seems revitalised, while not original garage rock is new for Prince and therefore sounds fresh (this is my opinion)

- 3rdEyeGirl is crap and Prince should stop twatting around and focus on being Prince as these girls have no talent so focus on working with the NPG

- Anything Prince has done since the mid 90s is rubbish and can never live up to expectations so we won't even try to see the merit in anything ever period!

So unsurprisingly *I* would be disappointed if Plectrum... does not get released. I really want to hear that album!

There is every possibility Kobalt Label Services can release Plectrum... but I imagine they are thinking "why would we go up against the PR remaster AND a new Prince album on WB?"

Sadly I do think Plectrum... should have been released off the back of the UK hit n run and Brits appearance when there was some noise. Sales would actually have benefitted from a fresh wave of media coverage on the WB deal. I think the moment is almost gone and Plectrum... will be eclipsed by what else is happening now.

When your name is Gollum shiny is all that matters.

Gollums stuff remains shining, even after a while.

But seriously: what will the appraisals look when the album is really good?

Well, having listened to Breakfast and the Breakdown (rhyming pool with fool, really deep lyrics), it's fair to predict the new album will be the usual rubbish.

Fall In Love 2nite is slight, but at least it was in my head for a while.

Even though Im very happy with a new Prince album I was abit suprised that he no longer was interested in PE once the deal with WB was in place. It's like he had a solo Prince album ready 2 go during all this time there was negotiations, and yes PE is clearly a victim of the WB deal.

Um, you don't think one of the tracks on the new album will be the god awful Rock'n'Roll Love Affair, since Andy is singing on the album?

I doubt anything already released before the new WB deal will be on the album. The Breakdown is a strong possibility and I guess Fall In Love Tonight maybe? I'm not sure on the distribution credits etc on that one since it was poop and didn't pay attention. :p

It's already confirmed that The Breakdown and Breakfast Can Wait are on it, and possibly U Will B (With Me). I wouldn't be surprised if Rock & Roll Love Affair is on it. FALLINLOVE2NITE and Screwdriver wouldn't shock me either. Now how would all of these songs with different styles sound together on the same album? That's another question.

if she heard the album three times, in full, i doubt that "U Will B" is on there

since she would have remembered. the title of the song is repeated like 75

times during the song. i wouldn't mind that song being on it though, since it

has such a lovely melody.

/

as far as these tracks going together, i made the following compilation last

year and it sounds kind of good.

/

01. Screwdriver

02. Rock N Roll Love Affair

03. Same Page, Different Book

04. Breakfast Can Wait

05. Extraloveable Reloaded

06. Boyfriend

07. FallinLove2Nite

08. Groovy Potential

09. Ain't Gonna Miss U When Ur Gone

10. De Bourgeoisie

11. That Girl Thang

/

they flow rather well together. although i don't think FallInLove2Nite fist all

that well, but I stuck it on there since it seemed to be another one off and

it wouldn't have anywhere else to go really. preferably i would take the two

last songs off it since i don't like them, really. and replace them with two

more rock tracks, so the balance between rock and funk would be better.

however, i do hate FULU and PBL so those are a no go for me lol

/

one thing about these tracks perhaps not being included is that they mostly

feature the NPG horns, which Nik West said weren't on the album. so there

is that.

/

there's song i wouldn't mind being on the 'new' album, like Breakfast, which

i rather like or RNR, but the thing is, we've known them for too long now

and i'm sure many of us have gotten used to them in different make ups,

much like my own tracklist above.

/

so i'm hoping that Nik West knows all the above songs and is right when

she says that only Breakfast and Breakdown are on the album, but just

like always, information is sketchy and nothing can be said for certain up

to the release.

When people say PE will suffer in sales? Are people really that cash strapped that they will buy a remaster and say and say "oh crap I dont have an extra ten bucks for PE"? Maybe his teenage girl audience, but most of his fan base are adults now. Im not sure Im convinced that there's not simultaneous room for everything.

That's just it. I'd like to sit and listen to a proper album all the way though, and if there's a bunch of songs on it that I already know, I would feel compelled to skip them. Hopefully, it's loaded with mostly new jams. My curiosity is piqued in regards to the song that made Nik's face contort involuntarily. lol
