Putting it out there.

It's not his style. Besides, in some way he probably celebrates it happening every single day anyway.

totally agree, the 25th DVD etc was plenty enough...a remastered CD really would be fab though!

There wasn't a 25th Anniversary edition DVD of PR. Oddly only a 20th. Yeah, I'd be a little disappointed if the 30th went by without another blu-ray edition or CD reissue.

He wouldn't need to play up the Purple Rain angle, but it would be a perfect time to kick off a series of WB-era cd remasters. And with the tour upcoming, the two events combined could create quite a frenzy!

...and then I woke up. confused

I'm thinking of a re release BLU RAY in a presentation box of a dumpster. You take the groupie out, pull a chord in her back and hear a studio version of Electric Intercourse.

The DVD istself has a recently recorded commentary by Prince, Wendy & Lisa and Morris where thay all talk about the innermost feelings at the time and now about what went on.

There are 15 outtakes of cuts where Applonia had to jump in the lake multiple times.

Could happen!

I was secretly hoping there'd be some hoopla around the 30th anniversary, but I knew realistically there won't be.

The recent press conference at La Havas' flat apparently confirms that there will be no anniversary celebration. Prince supposedly is not aware that 2014 is the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain - he "doesn't look back."

If PR still belongs to WB, maybe they'll try to get some more money out it with some sort of rerelease, that's all.

That would be great, however I am not forking out for another set of DVD's of Purple Rain though, they will probably release the 20th anniversary set in a new re re mastered version with a 30th anniversary edition sticker by itself.

And as great as that set is, most of us already have all the boots and alternative versions of songs anyway.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I think Prince might be more inclined to do a show or something where he played the album (like other artists have). He's not immune to nostalgia and working it no matter how much he protests otherwise, I just think if nothing has changed with regards to masters or whatever, then why would he get involved in some sort of re-release project - you all know his hobby is cutting off his nose to spite his face.

I think it's far past time to move on from Purple Rain. It's not good to dwell on the past, nor try to re-live it......it's over and done, and we can't get it back. I'm sure we've all had enough of Purple Rain to last a lifetime.

Do you think?? I know he'll play some old songs when he's in the mood but i'd be super surprised if he played the whole album again. I guess if he was offered a pile of cash that could change his mind.

He can always bank on Purple Rain 35, Purple Rain 40, Purple Rain 45 and Purple Rain 50 if he misses out on this one.

The "anniversary" thing with albums is a bit flimsy concept. I mean, there's always going to be some classic album by an artist like Prince or Bowie that currently has one.

Of course Prince cares about that its the Purple Rain 30th anniversary, why else did he wait with the release of Plectrum until now? Its cuz he knows it will most likely boost the sales. But there wont be any Purple Rain deluxe edition, hes not smart enought 2 relese such a thing when Its Purple Rain 30 lol

Well, in that London interview, he said he doesn't look back, when asked about the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain album.

http://www.huffingtonpost...27200.html

"He claimed not to have noticed that 2014 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of his groundbreaking album "Purple Rain," regularly hailed as one of the best records of the 1980s.

"I don't look back," he said."

I disagree. There's nothing wrong with re-visiting the past, especially when it comes to music.Purple Rain was a career milestone for Prince and it should be celebrated,by him and his fans.I don't think most fans can simply "move on" from what we experienced in 1984.

I would love to see it remastered. I would love see his whole 80's output remastered really (But that will NEVER happen)

I know people have been calling for those, and rightfully so. Purple Rain could use some great remastering smile that would be an eargasm.

I agree and, like many others, I think it's a gateway to new fans. Let's face it - any young person looking at Prince now is going to be looking from a 'historical' perspective. Like, when I first started really investigating Bowie in about 1990, I wasn't buying Tin Machine or Never Let Me Down... I was buying the Ryko reissues of the 70's stuff. If I hadn't done that, I wouldn't have become the huge fan that I am, and I wouldn't be rocking out to The Next Day today.

A young fan tripping on The Beautiful Ones today might be compelled to go and find Crimson and Clover tomorrow. But without that brilliant historical intro, he/she might never bother...

right now, there is a big thing going on with the Beatles. This is the anniversary of their legendary appearance on the Ed Sullivan show and when they first came to America. This kinda stuff is a big deal to their fans and I think it's wonderful that it's being celebrated, remembered and re-visited.Prince will disagree, but I don't think there's anything wrong with looking back and reflecting. He seems to have the mentality that whatever he's doing now is better and more important than what he did in the past.Quite frankly,he's totally wrong.
