In the UK in the 80s, DJs avoided Prince like the plague. His BPM was always off the current trends. Kiss sometimes got a spin at very commercial clubs.

it wasn't my imagination then & i wasn't too off my head to even notice?! lol i just remembered fatoy slim did brighton beach, he played a cover of 'i would die 4 u', it went down very well

P-control is definitely the Prince track I've heard most on club/bar dance floors since it's release.

I once witnessed "My Name is Prince" completely clear a dance floor in Austin, Texas on 6th St. (Personally I love the track).

I witnessed that at a very popular club in germany in 1993. I watched the crowd dancing from the balcony, and when "my name is prince" was played the floor was empty in seconds.

I really don't like the song.

The songs I heard most:

Erotic City

Kiss

U got the Look

and Cream are probably the most played club songs back in the day.

Honorable mention for Pussy Control.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

By the time I was old enough to go to clubs, most people had considered Prince as "fallen off" or "done lost his mind". I did hear "Kiss" in black straight clubs in mid to late 1980s. In the early 1990s when I started going to the gay clubs, in the black club, I heard The Prince Ultimix several times which is a mix of a lot of the old songs. The DJ was a Prince fan and a few lesbians got on the dance floor whenever he played it but most of the black gay men in my area couldn't stand Prince. They said he was a "woman". lol In the white gay club, I heard "Kiss" one time and one time only.

However, in the early 1980s before I was old enough to go clubbing, I used to go skating. I heard lots of Prince songs in the skating rink. However, they were only played on "Super Soul Skate Night", in other words, what everyone called "Black Night". As my grandmother said one night when she went to pick me up because my mother, who usually picked me up was having car trouble that night, my grandmother said...."What the hell is wrong with your mother letting you go out here? Get in the car, I'm scared for my life. Ain't no black folks on the streets because they're all up in here tonight". falloff Anyway, they played all the old jams througout the years until after "Purple Rain" when everyone started saying "Prince done lost his mind doing that hippie ass shit now". lol But through the years, they played all of the following while they were in style and popular:

I Wanna Be Your Lover

Sexy Dancer

Uptown

Dirty Mind

Head

Partyup

Controversy

Let's Work

Private Joy

1999

DMSR

Lady Cab Driver

Automatic

Irrisistible Bitch

When Doves Cry

Erotic City

Andy is a four letter word.

The houstyle extended/remix by Steve "Silk" Hurley of "Gett Off" was quite popular. It was much faster than the released version on "Diamonds and Pearls" and was the faster version played on the video.
