Prince set for huge 2014 - joins Purple PR

Prince is now represented by London-based company Purple PR ahead of a 2014 release.

This is a large and well established PR firm who also have artists such as Beyonce, Adele and Calvin Harris among their clients.

Probably a short term deal just to promote the London shows.

Wouldn't it be a bit late for that, though?

I agree that he usually puts more effort into promoting his live shows (if at all) than any album releases (although he did have a proper crack at Lotusflow3r, although a short one, before seemingly loosing interest again), but if he had a proper album in his locker (again), with that sort of backing, we're talking charts again.

You know, I'm all... cool, maybe something's happening. He's signing with a pr firm, Militant vouches for them being real, so maybe Prince is serious, and

Hey, wait--Purple Pr? Purple??? Okay, so I guess they're established firm and all, but he just signed because of the color, didn't he?? I mean, we've gotten all those Jamie Lewis mixes because it's Purple Music, right? It's not like they've shown themselves to be in any other way remarkable, have they? Does it take anything to get Prince's business other than putting the word "Purple" in your name?

Or maybe it's all just a coincidence. razz

I do hope it means something, but this name trend just seems like some kind of joke.

I wasn't really following at the time,

but did he do anything special for the 25th anniversary of Rurple Rain?

I don't recall him being too keen on anniversaries, or the past at all for that matter.

I'm not saying he isn't gearing up for something, I'm just curious if anybody believes it could possibly have anything to do with Purple Rain.

No he didn't do anything. But Prince agreeing 2 appear @ the Essence festival the very month of the 30th Anniversary of "Purple Rain"! 2 me is not a coincidence! Whether he admits or not. Its a subliminal message. Plus 204TE3N=7V3N

I would love for him to do some real promotion, but I am scared he will contract out with them to promote his next release for 2 weeks, and then offer them a bonus if they can bury the album and keep it from selling. Or end up at 49 cents like Lotus Flow3r.

Millions of 'free' copies of Planet Earth and 20ten were distributed, and he didn't have a huge hit. He did multiple televised appearances additionally, and these did nothing. During 3121 he appeared on the biggest show at the time, American Idol, and sales of his album didn't budge. Let's not forget that during Rave Un2, he had Clive Davis behind its release. His face was plastered on the billboard otuside of MTV's TRL (Which was big with youth at the time), and he even appeared on the show, and nothing happened.

Nothing in the arrangement makes me think he's going to have a huge 2014. Prince needs a series of amazing albums, released one after the other for a few years to recapture any semblance of mass market appeal again. And, both time and his creative juices seem to be running out. I wasn't excited back in late 2012 when all this 3rdeyeGirl nonsense was starting to bubble up, and I don't see anything now that would cause me to be optimistic about 2014. Plus, the music sucks.

Oh, I'm not complaining when his albums don't sell. I rather find it amusing.3121 was not at #1 when he appeared on American Idol. It debuted at #1 weeks and weeks earlier, but had quickly and significantly dropped by the time Prince made an appearance. And, the album didn't get so much as a 'bump' after his appearance. It also didn't help that Simon Cowell called Prince out for his rude behavior. Not great publicity. I've seen these types of threads play out before.

All, I can say is that in a year's time, 2014 will not have been a huge anything for Prince. Just another year.

Eye don't know why U are continuing to debate back & forth with these haters on here! Its useless! 3121 sold just as many copies as "LoveSexy" back in 88. Prince's sells have been up & down 4 decades. Prince is the only artist that has consistently satisfied his fans with constant albums every year up to just a few years ago. Tell that person to have several seats in the Staples Center & move on...

Hope I am wrong, but I cannot see P doing anything for the 30th anniversary of PR, he has said he doesn't like to look back, plus if it is a chance for WB to make more money from him, don't think it will happen, but as I said, I really hope I am wrong!

So with a new pr firm, does that mean Kiran Sharma is now out, or would this be a part of the Kobalt deal?

Please note the huge in the title.

It's a reference to '2013 will be BIG!', I guess.

Is that the PR we will get, even after changing offices?

Or will we get them Prince posters on them bus stops again, even in the Netherlands?

"Prince set for a huge 2014"???

Really. eek

Should we laugh or cry, lol or... sad

HE promissed us a "big 2013" as well, what a disaster this year has been, new crap music following some more new crap music. Not even 1 new purple song. cry

I hope this time the year will be great (2014), but I have come to a point, I am soooo sceptic now... I fear Prince has no more to offer, I fear he is empty.

But LET'S SEE, in 2014. What will this year bring us..????

-- Oh dear, how I fear 2014 will be another un-funky, embarrassing, crappy year, just like 2013 was --

the dance, I was waiting for your reply. lol Well, for me 2013 hasn't really been big neither in terms of the quality of the music nor regarding the distribution methods. So I agree, I have my doubts too for 2014.

the dance, you are really annoying. That's in 2013, hopefully in 2014 you will quit your Prince activity and give us a break from your whining. Is your aim to break a record of negative comment in every single thread of this website? Grow up and quit.
