Well, I obviously will not be able to hear those episodes now. But I have to ask, for those who heard them, did they also include actual snippets of prince music? if so, then that may have been what caused a problem. The prince podcast tries to never have anything like that for those very reasons.
In the two Prince dedicated shows The Music Snobs did, they included "Wonderful Ass" and "The Grand Progression" which are unreleased Prince tunes, so I figure Prince's lawyers had them remove the shows on those grounds. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR |

I was just listening to the most recent The Music Snobs Podcast, and they mentioned that back in September Prince's lawyers had the 2 part episodes reviewing 1999 for it's 30th anniversary removed from Soundcloud.
First of all, how? Prince has no right to prevent anyone from reviewing his album, and any copyright issues should clearly fall under fair use.
Second, why? They were clearly praising the record and it's importance to Prince's career and influence over the sound of the 80s.
It's shit like this, where Prince and/or his lawyers are clearly in the wrong, using bully tactics to prevent FANS from participating in a completely legal activity: reviewing a record. This is a major reason so many former fans are just that, FORMER fans.
On another note, check out the newest episode of Prince Podcast, they're doing a commentary on a bootleg: 4 Those Of U On Valium!

The prince podcast tries to never have anything like that for those very reasons. You can still download and listen to the podcasts legally. You just can't download them through soundcloud. And yes they did use snippets of music, which is probably what got them in trouble. It starts out with a bit of Rebirth of the Flesh, if I recall correctly, but I don't remember if it was the officially released rehearsal version or the unreleased studio one. I see how an unreleased version could be a problem, but a snippet of publicly available music in a music discussion/criticism seems like the essence o fair use. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony" |
