Prince's quote about Janelle Monae at Billboard Women In Music

"To the only person who worries me as an opening act: they could never praise you enough for your gift to all of them. Keep on giving 'em what we love!" - Prince on Janelle Monae

Check out a few behind-the-scene shots from tonight's Billboard Women in Music Awards, where Tamron Hall and Prince honored Janelle Monae.

I'd like to hear what else they recorded. I think they bring out each other's musical greatness quite nicely.

If Prince is concerned about Janelle as an opening act then I'm concerned ! He'll still be in another league (or seven) when he's 65 !

True, I've not seen her live but have seen many, many clips and TV performances.....I just can't get into her at all. She is lively / energetic on stage - giving it some with the dance moves but even they seem like largely poorly executed Prince/JB moves.

As for her voice - it does nothing for me at all - she can hold a tune but that seems about it ?!? I'm not feeling emotion or soul at all. Her duet with Prince - he sounds great, whereas she seems like she's really struggling and straining.

I've tried to get into her and watched and/or listened repeatedly with a positive, more than open mindset - Prince digs her, she must be good, right ? Not for me I'm afraid ! Andy Allo may not have the same level of stage presence or moves but her voice moves me far more...much warmer, richer and soulful.....that's before we get to heavy hitters (I mean vocally) like Rosie G.

Nope - I don't believe the hype !

he's right she's the best live performer of this generation..if you never saw one of her incendiary shows do it..she is really something else live.. cool and of course everybody has their tastes about voices but seriously she has a great voice.. her voice is pure butter, sweet and energic at the same time, plus she's super versatile vocally....see her live and you will realize it..

I hope they will work together again givin what they love was amazing..and she just said she will be at one of his shows in December..I hope they will perform the song together finally..but of course they will.. wink

about the concert I hope someone will record some videos illegally cool ..I want to see them doing givin them what you love live wink anyway yes I think they just click with each other musically and as it seems personally..janelle is like of course different from him being her whole persona and all but at the same time probably one of the closest Prince's female counterpart ,in a lot of aspects imo..I always found a lot of similarities between them..if Janelle wasn't the strong, independent woman that she is and Prince hadn't an history of being very controlling with his women they could actually be a nice couple..even though no wait he's like double her age maybe not razz

After the intro she and Erykah did for him at the Billboards last time, I think it's great that he returned the favor. She deserves it. She's working her ass off, even though the Grammys snuffed her this year.

Change it one more time..

Love me some Janelle. At essence this year they practically booed her off stage. Bunch on moro#s.
Only in New Orleans.
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Prince and Janelle are both top notch Musicians. Janelle is really beautiful, inside and out, like Prince.

I'm in love with Prince but not 'in love' with Janelle, but I really dig them both musically. When they play together they keep it lighthearted, energizing and fun. I saw them both this year and if I had to choose again which show to go, it'd be Prince. Not that Janelle isn't funky enuf, it's just that I really do love P. I've wanted to talk to him for about 15 yrs, not sure if I'm getting closer to that or further away. But when I find what I love I tend to stick to it ....and for me it's Prince right down the linel

I absolutely loved seeing Jane perform and listening to all of her CD's. but when we're talking about love, total love, of a person, that'd be Prince. Both are magnificent, I would love to see them anytime, together even better. guitar music
