Prince's strongest guitar hook/riff in a song

Has to be between 'I'm yours', 'Bambi' & 'Guitar'

Guitar?? It's one of the dullest, least inventive, lifeless riffs he's produced!
Witness...now we're talking about some seriously heavy riffage.

Now you're talking. The solo is glued to the melody and a lesson in restraint.

Not an obvious choice but Erotic City. Rhythm guitar master class.

Guitar riffs and guitar solo are two different things in my mind.

To add another: Calhoun Square...powerful guitar riffs in the chorus.

"rave un2 the joy fantastic". is that a hook? or a very long riff? lol

anyway, i like that one. it's the first one that comes to mind anyway

although there are too many to name really.

i guess prince likes it too since he's used it several times in different

songs and live performances etc etc.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Hmmm, I might get lambusted for saying this, but I've never felt that riff-writing was ever really Prince's strong point.

Even a song like Endorphinemachine, yeah it rocks, but the riff is basically just a re-write of Smoke On The Water.

I don't hear that at all lol...is it because Endorphinemachine kinda has that 3-4-3-2 type of riff (I have no other way of 'splaining it lol)?

And that's exactly why guitar players aren't eager to play his stuff.

Prince's music is seldom based on guitar riffs and that's one of the reasons why he's able to take his songs in all kinds of directions so easily.

It can be a bit disappointing to be a guitar player and try to learn how to play Prince songs, because you can seldom recreate the song on a guitar alone in any satisfying manner. The guitar parts are usually just sort of scattered around the composition / recording. He's not at all like, say, Hendrix in that sense.

True. The energy of Foxy Lady and Purple haze riffs then the smooth sliding feel of wind cries Mary are superb. Prince has some Hendrix going on in Bambi I think. Purple Haze n Bambi

I second the truth. Very active riff there. Its spans a lot of vertical room on the staff.

I just mention this on the ruined song thread...but 77 park....I thiiiiink. The riff at the beginning is epically awesome...the in 2 seconds the same riff gets all schmaltzy. Its the same riff and its strange to see how different it can sound.

Computer Blue - the riff in sync with the keyboard plus the solo is great!
