I think Prince went to the drawing board to WB! With a renegotiated deal that he offered to them. That included control of his old Master recordings & a brand new 20T3N deluxe album with bonus tracks. This was after the newspaper deal. I'm sure they balked at the idea! Didn't offer Prince what he felt he should get and he walked... Whatever happened in there. It soured him to do any more deals with any other record companies again... sad

.

I think that's totally possible and a realistic scenario. Or the newspaper deal could've been a middle finger to WB!

nod

But Eye think Prince was spotted "strutting" into WB after the newspaper deal if Eye'm not mistaken...

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

That he attempted to broker a deal with WB seems fairly clear.

That the deal included his Master Recordings????

Where have you seen any evidence or mention of this issue?

I think the deal fell thru because he wanted a flying car & WB just said no. lol

Why else go to WB?

Or do you imply the market is either so rotten or has learned so much about P that he cannot get business with the other entities?

Yeah, that's why I'm not 100% about whether it was for radio. I'm just going by what I thought I read when I saw it yesterday, but I could be wrong. Either way, it comes from a professional source/company, which is the main thing, because it'd have to be properly cleared and have the right information.

Also databank, you linked to the "Rich Friends" page, not the Hot Summer page.

lol lol I don't know why these 2 songs have always been mixed in my mind.

They missed it nonetheless: http://www.princevault.co...Hot_Summer

I remember back then rumors about P releasing 20ten Deluxe with Warner UK, and I can't remember if it was about the French release of Lotusflow3r or 20ten Deluxe but I remember P in an interview saying his issues were with WB US and that he had no problem working with WB Europe, so the fact that WB was at some point negociating doesn't necessarly mean that it included masters negociations because it could just be WB Europe.

PRINCE ANNOUNCES INNOVATIVE NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH KOBALT

19 May 2013

LOS ANGELES and NEW YORK (May 20, 2013) – Ever-blazing new trails to push traditional boundaries for music to be heard, marketed and distributed, PRINCE has announced he’s created a unique new partnership with leading global independent music services company Kobalt Music Group (Kobalt), which, for the first time, will give him the ability to self-release music globally with a new level of flexibility and freedom.

Through the ground-breaking venture, the seven-time Grammy Award-winner and multi-platinum artist, will release a slate of music by new artists, as well as PRINCE recordings and other PRINCE-produced material by utilizing Kobalt’s label services for marketing and distribution and other services. PRINCE will provide artist development and recording services for newly signed artists that Kobalt will market and distribute globally through their wholly-owned global digital platform and network of physical distribution partners.

With a history of innovation in releasing his music, whether through newspaper distribution, at concerts, via his exclusive clubs or through direct deals with retail, PRINCE is embracing a new label services model to bring new music to the world without the confines of the old-school label system.

“This new venture gives PRINCE the flexibility and freedom he’s always sought in a label partner. We’re providing a high level of diverse services that will be particularly customized to his vision for each release, allowing the world to experience more music from PRINCE and his creative community,” said Richard Sanders, President of Kobalt.

Fresh off a sold out nine-city west coast club tour with his highly acclaimed backup band 3RDEYEGIRL, PRINCE yesterday received the prestigious BILLBOARD ICON AWARD during the live broadcast of the BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS. This summer he will headline the Montreux Jazz Festival as well as do select dates in Europe and in the U.S.

About Kobalt Label Services (KLS)

Part of the Kobalt Music Group, Kobalt Label Services (KLS) provides the next generation of services for artists and labels worldwide, empowering recording owners with a full-service solution to releasing and marketing records while maintaining ownership of their masters. Established as an alternative to the traditional label model, KLS maximizes client opportunities and revenues from a wide range of global digital retail, traditional physical retail, audio and video streaming, synch licensing, D2C and social media services. Clients benefit from Kobalt expertise in multi-rights management, the security and trust of Kobalt's proven and transparent royalty accounting, advanced data analytics and experienced staff to co-ordinate and manage releases.

Im sure that over the past years, Prince had more then once contact with Warner Brothers concerning released and unreleased projects. And the contacts were from both sides

Why?

Wait for the 40 or 50 year anniversary?

Most people that saw the movie when it came out will be busy with their lives.

He has been playing a selection of those songs for ages but refuses to play certain others.

Most outtakes from those days are known, so what can he add to make it interesting?

The "Purple Rain" album & everything that came with it made Prince a superstar! Just like "Thriller" made Mj a superstar. Its the album that will always be a GOLDMINE in his catalog. Doesn't matter what he can add to it. It will always make a profit for him. Once he OWNS the master!

Sure, but will simply remastering do the job of captivating that audience once again?

That was why I was contemplating the outtakes and similar stuff.

Also all the 12" materials of that era could be added to this small box set...

well he could add a lot to the purple rain reissue .. like some shelby yelling 'get on upa' and 'i can't hear u' .. maybe have some rap overdubs on the extended mixes .. and there are lots of lyrics to change .. maybe he is doing you a favor by not releasing deluxe pr because he may have already 'star wars special edition'ed his whole catalog and he is just waiting for the right time to rape your ears biggrin

Except for those of us that were around at the time (or the diehards he's picked up since), and for whom he'd have to do something special for us to buy it again (real remaster, added material, something!)--nope, not really. Relative goldmine, yeah--but everything anyone outside of the core fanbase wants is on the Very Best of. Sure, that's so much less than everyone probably should want, but in the real world, it's all almost anyone does want. And if he were to return to that album, I shudder to think what he (as the man he is now) might do to it.

The whole idea makes me have Star Wars nightmares.

I have way expect that something might happen to Lisa and Wendy's little "is the water warm enough" exchange that would make Greedo shooting first seem like a mild controversy.

And not all controversy is good--sometimes people are upset because you just did something stupid.

I doubt he will mess with that one as far as editing it! It means too much to too many people.

Casey lol ? this is Ben LOL. Anyways , 20ten wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. I really think it is better than rave un2 the joy alot better. So if he were to release a remix like he did to rave i think 20ten would fare alot better even becoming a hit album.

Yes, he can.

But knowing P, the big question is: would he?

He has no habit of looking back.

OTOH his recent 'reloaded' remakes of stuff make one think again about that.

He released the remixed "Dance4Me" 2 years after the original version from the half a million sold "LotusFlow3r"! So if we demand 2 hear 20T3NDeluxe! He may rerelease it. But Eye doubt if the fans will demand it. Since the majority hated on the original version so much....rolleyes disbelief
