You would need to rent a theater and provide the film yourself.

There was a screening in LA a few years back and Apollonia attended it. I remember as I wanted to go.

Are you talking about the one that happened in SF? Because I did attend that one. If not, I had no
idea that they did one in LA as well.

You could try a crowd-screening service like http://gathr.us

You request a screening, invite your friends, and if x number of people sign up/pay, the screening and theatre is yours.

Not sure where you are, but if it's a major US city, that could work.

Most theaters have digital projectors so you could probably play it off a bluray disc. It wouldn't look as good as a film print.

You can try this site. They have film rentals for various organizations. They offer Purple Rain, but only through college campses, but it might be a good place to start.
